Indian Cent colors

1 post in this topic

Along with Morgans,my other favorite to collect are Indian head cents. What I need to know is how many natural colors are there for these. Specifically,I come across quite a few "golden" IHC's. Like the one in the photo. The reverse is the same color. Considering, the metals that they are made of can you get this color without doctoring? I came across an explanation of sorts, but it's limited to one year but weren't alot of years using the same alloys?.

"Among later coins, bronze Indian cents and Lincoln cents made at the San Francisco Mint in 1909 were struck on planchets made from an alloy giving the pieces a light yellow or straw color, rather than the normal red or orange surface, after striking."
