BN ?

3 posts in this topic

I am new, so forgive me if this is common knowledge.

What does BN stand for within the following NGC grade of a

half cent......

MS 61 BN

Is it good, is it bad, does it effect value, etc.?

Thank you in advance for the answer.

The color of copper/bronze coins is designated either BN (brown), RB (red-brown) or RD (red). Sometimes the determination as to which color designation best describes the color of the coin is easy, and other times it is difficult. Generally speaking (and there certainly are exceptions), a RB example is worth more than a BN one and a RD one is worth more than a RB one.
