Discrepancy between NGC and PCGS Presidential SMS $1 Coin Grades

2 posts in this topic

It seems to me that NGC and PCGS are grading the Presidential SMS coins differently. A given coin seems to be a grade higher at PCGS as compared to NGC. I've seen discussions like this before, discrepancies between NGC and PCGS for coins, what does this sort of thing mean to the collector? In the long run, does the higher grade slab always do better even though there may be a discrepancy between those that slab?

What do you all think? Should a collector always go for the high grade irrespective of service? Does high grade always win?

Cheers!

First of all, Welcome to our friendly little neighborhood!

For me, there is not the slightest doubt which one I would buy (if I collected these) - the NGC coin hands down. I can tell you without any more information that it will be the cheaper coin by far, and the key to enjoying coins like this is to invest the least amount of money possible.

I will not touch a PCGS modern with a twenty foot pole (though I won't touch an NGC modern with a five foot pole lol ).
