1922 Peace Dollar, Rusted Dies?

I looked at this coin the other night and was not going to comment, I do not wish to be the harbinger of bad news, but this Peace dollar has definitely acquired some environmental issues, whether they be natural or man made.

 

All the original mint luster is gone and the surface is mottled to a point where magnification is no longer required for identification. Too bad, as this appeared to be at one time, a very strong strike.

 

One cannot place a grade on a coin in such condition, it would be misleading to do so, so all you can really say for now is “damaged”

I agree. Seems to be a corroded AU that has been subsequently cleaned like crazy.

Looks cleaned with fuming concentrated acid or other aggressive caustic agent.
