700 + BUCKS FOR THIS LITTLE ERROR???

Well, given the fact that NGC examined the coin in hand and you're just looking at a fuzzy picture, I'm gonna have to go with NGC on this one. A struck through and die crack will be obviously different to an observer since one is raised and the other incused.

I have not seen die cracks look like this but I have seen many struck thru thread errors look like this especially on the proof coins. Perhaps, you are right.

"The Phrygian cap was also worn by King Midas to hide his donkey ears given to him as a curse by Apollo. Some variations of the myth note that Midas' subjects mistakenly took this to be a fashion statement and started wearing the tall peaked caps."

Perhaps, her Donkey ears cracked through her cap?

I collect SAEs...just completed the MS...and the reverse proof is one of my favorites of all. If I had a few $$$ to burn, I wouldn't mind owning this Eagle. The coin would go nicely with my 08 reverse of 07. (thumbs u

Once again, WHAT ERROR????

Die cracks are a normal stage in the life of a die, not errors in workmanship. The resulting coins are NOT ERRORS--they are exactly what SHOULD result from using that particular set of worn dies.
