Help me to understand.. Please

Hello,

First let me say that I have been interested in coin collecting since I inherited a very nice coin collection back in the early 70's. All of the coins are in long term flips and have never been graded. What I need to know is this. Are most coins first submitted to NCS before they go to NGC for grading? I have some very nice coins but I don't know how to move forward with them. I joined the collectors society and received my coupon for 5 free gradings but I would hate to use it only to find out my coins needed to be sent to NCS first.

How do I know if a coin can be submitted directly to NGC for grading?

I assume some coins are submitted directly to NGC?

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. I have collected many coins in the years since my uncle left me his collection and now I want to do the right thing with these coins and pass them on to my children.

Thanks very much!
