The mintage is relative high for a 19th century coin, but the survival rate is low. Most of the existing 1885s circulated heavily, and few are still around with as much nicer detail as yours.

 

Make sure that is a genuine coin. Certification is appropriate!

Mintage was 1,476,490.

 

Excluding the 1913 (mintage= 5) the only date with fewer minted was the 1912S.

 

Why that kind of money for a million plus minted coin? Perhaps no one saved them?

most all saw heavy circulation
