Rochester ”Soldiers and Sailors Monument” - cornerstone coins

7 posts in this topic

Anyone have information on the ”Soldiers and Sailors Monument” dedicated in 1892 in Rochester, NY? (Beyond the usual Google stuff…)

Mint records show that the cornerstone contains 13 Bronze medals and a complete 1892 proof set (incl gold) plus other items. Has the cornerstone ever been opened?

Well I asked my roommate who just so happens to be from the Rochester area, and he had no idea what I was talking about. He didn't even know what the monument was. Completely useless, haha. So what do you need this obscure piece of trivia for?

Wondering if the cornerstone was ever opened and the proofs removed. What would a complete, original 1892 set bring? (The monument cost $26,000 in 1891-2)
