Real or Fake.... Decide....

5 posts in this topic

Questionable Authenticity. The mint is Santiago, Chile. With this particular issue, the true 8 reales has a different type of 'Q' in the legend 'V. TRAQUE' which is more stylized. In addition, the mintmaster's initial 'J' should be smaller and less stylized. Also, the '5' in the date looks more of Mexico origin, while the true coin has a more pronounce '5' much like today. If the coin were real, it is considered 'rare'.

There is no question - the coin is fake. It is perhaps the most obvious give-away that is overlooked. The King's name is wrong. Santiago used the full latinized name Ferdinandus.

There are so many things wrong with this coin it would be tough to list them all.
