1898 Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition HK-283

5 posts in this topic

New pickup.

Official brass medal of the Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition held at Omaha, Nebraska in 1898.

The obverse features a left facing female bust. The reverse offers a superb depiction of a plains Indian mounted on a

bareback pony spearing a bison (buffalo). The dies for the obverse of this medal were sculpted at the United States Mint at Philadelphia.

The reverse was designed by T.R. Kimball of Omaha, Nebraska.

Now you're getting into an area that I know something about and this is one of the nicer Trans-Miss that I've seen. Great pick up! (thumbs u

I agree. Doing Ebay searches for Mississippi-related medals and tokens, I frequently run across these. Many look like they have been carried as pocket pieces, or otherwise abused. Yours is a nice piece!
