If you want some of your collection CAC approved, how do YOU go about doing so?

28 posts in this topic

Whether the merits warrant it or not, suppose you do want a few of your coins CAC approved.

How would you personally go about doing so? Would you jump on their website and submit coins (ok... really... can anyone do so?) or would you wait for a big show in your area, such as Long Beach in September, and sumit them there?

Do they offer show service where coins may be picked up later in the day?

How has your success rate been with your coins and the CAC?

"How would you personally go about doing so?"

Mark Feld acted as a go-between and I mailed them to him.

"How has your success rate been with your coins and the CAC?"

Of the 35 coins sent, 66% (23) stickered and 34% (12) did not.

Hope to see a post on this, with images, in the near future. :)I'll probably have some coins screened at some time in the future.

I would wait for a show. Save the mailing cost. I did mine at coinfest last year. 86% of my coins stickered. 80% of coins I submitted were commems.

I know many of my questions can be answered right HERE

But wanted first hand experience, if collectors/dealers here had some to share. .

At coinfest it was free. Dropped off coins and they were done in 2-3 hours. Very easy and free! I have a gold stickered 1903 Jefferson dollar PCGS 63. I think 1% of coins at coinfest got the gold sticker. It`s not how nice the coin is, but if CAC thinks it`s undergraded.

At least as of this time, they don't accept coins at most shows, so that could be a long wait. ;)

I don't think it was that high of a % for gold stickers. But either way, from what I've heard, overall, the % of coins which receive gold stickers is much lower than that.

I just sent two coins in through my dealer (you know, the guy in the slab cracking video). Cost 20 bucks a coin and should take about 2 weeks.

Excellent info. Thanks guys!

Does anyone know of a somewhat local dealer (in the San Diego area) that is a CAC dealer? Mark, are you?

(I know I could ask this via a PM, but perhaps others would also like to know.)

Also, what is in it for a CAC Dealer to take the time and submit collectors coins for them?

Just a quick note:

I wrote Tom Pilitowski this morning expecting a possible response later in the week, but was delighted he wrote back already. He provided additional information that really was no where to be found on previous CAC threads here and across the street.

If he is an example of the typical CAC dealer, then the CAC is in good hands.

Pat, yes, I occasionally submit to CAC for clients. What's "in it" for me is that I charge my clients the same price I pay to CAC for submissions, plus applicable postage, rounded to the nearest dollar. So in the cases where I round the postage up to the nearest dollar, instead of rounding it down, I make a profit for my time. :D

I would have to send CAC candidate coins to Mark because the nearest CAC dealer is Pinnacle and they are (150) miles away. Plus being disabled, I don't fly much, especially from Sea-Tac Airport because I don't like to and am physically unable to stand in TSA check-in lines for 2-1/2 hours which seems to be typical in Seattle.

Mark, Even though Rick Tomaska is only a few boxes away from me at the post office I'd rather submit through you.

Will you be at Long Beach on Thursday? And... please feel free to round up on the postage. No problem. ;)

Pat, I will be there part of that day - probably until about 2:00, but I'm not certain of that. Please feel free to have me paged if you don't see me there.

Will do.

Promise not to laugh though when I show you the coins I want CAC'ed...

Here's just one of them:

Pat, on second thought, I think I might be skipping the Long beach show. :D

Good point.

Then, how about this one? ;)

You know what?

You're right! Looks like I'll have to submit only "real" coins at Long Beach to Mark.

Well, that was easy. Cuts my grouping down by 2/3'rds!
