Toning on Brown Uncirculated Indian Head Cents

1 post in this topic

To whom it may concern:

Recently I have come across a group of 1883 to date Indian Head Cents from an original collection. They are frosty brown uncirculated coins which have violet toning on them. I do not think the actual guy played around with them. Most of these coins were purchased from 1976-1980. I am sure they are not proofs.

I am taking another look at them next week. I know that an application of "MS70" coin cleaner can turn these coins this color. How do you tell the difference? As a Half Cent collector, I know how virtually pure copper reacts with it. Is it different for Bronze?

I will taking pictures of them and posting them to the group next week, but I would like to get some sort of an idea before I actually see them.

Thanks in advance,

Greg Heim
