OT: Between My Health Issues and My Son - I need a Vacation

31 posts in this topic

As I consider most here friends , I will be incommunicado for a week or so ... I need a VACATION! Between my health issues and My sons current issue ( see pics ) I am over due -

He has a Compression fracture of the lower spine and a broken ankle but it is better than Banging a white cross into the place where it happened, 1500 yards from home. I am not a religious man althought I do consider my self spiritual - I gave thanks that he was not take from me. 17 years old. No Drugs or Alcohol involved as I had to make my wife at ease, though I had no doubt,I had him tested at the hospital. He was cleared by specialists to be able to take a flight so I will park his butt on Myrtle Beach as I think he needs some away time to clear his head as do I. TO refreshen the soul you might say.

Sorry but the off topic but I had to talk to someone ...He is doing well but in pain.

( He broke curfew and Broke some laws - he almost paid the ultimate price for breaking them. Junior Operator operating out of operating hours - snuck out in the middle of the morning to meet up with 3 girls to hang - thank god he got them home! He fell asleep at the wheel at 4am Wednesday Morning went off the road and hit a rock and flipped him with BOTH air bags and seat belt saving his life )

I know how you feel. My youngest son was hit by an old lady who ran a stop sign into a two lane highway. The van spun around like a top! There wasn't a place on my(totaled) van that wasn't dented. His next vehicle somehow got all tangled up with a 18 wheeler. That wreck just took the front off of the (totaled) car. Vehicle number # 3 was a nice fairly new Jeep. A guy pulled into his lane while entering a 4 lane hwy. The Jeep flipped over onto the drivers side then the hand of God or his Angel pushed the jeep back onto all 4 wheels. The side wasn't scratched very badly but the smushed front end got this Jeep totaled. Also this one put him into the Hospital! Everything worked out well in the end but it takes a while before the knot in your stomach starts to loosen up a bit. I am thankful that my son's new job lets him work from his home!

I am glad your son is doing well!

Sorry to hear what happened.

Falling asleep at the wheel is the worst thing.

I glad me didn't get real hurt. From looking at the car I didn't know what to think.

Hope the vaction helps!!

Your son sounds like me, "If I didn't have bad luck I would have no luck at all!!"

Mike, I'm glad that your son is okay. Perhaps, it is a blessing in disguise. Young girls who would rather be some place other than at home in bed at that hour of the morning often find themselves paying visits to obstetricians down the road. Sure, the girls will probably be saying "Oh, my God!" for a while. Then, they will go right back to finding someone else to lure into their web. I hope your son will come to the realization that they just aren't worth it under those circumstances. Be thankful that your son didn't come home as the father of three.

You can call me a pessimist if you wish, but I've seen it happen many, many, many times.

Wow, thank god your son is alright, that looks like it could have ended much worse. But you gotta kind of be impressed, 3 girls at once? Your kid is a stud! Have a good vacation, and I wish him a speedy recovery!

Glad it wasn't worse Mike. I'm sure this should be a very eye opening lesson for him. Luckily it didn't cost the ultimate price. Enjoy your vacation my friend!!!

Look at the bright side... at least he snuck out to hang with girls!

All joking aside, I'm glad to hear he's ok. My sons are far from driving, but I dread it already. I had a really close friend of ours recently get involved in a roll over... and I know how lucky she is to be alive right now. It didn't really affect me until I knew for sure she was going to be ok then it hit me like a ton of bricks. Although she's not my daughter, she may as well be. I still get emotional thinking about it. Me, I'm spiritual and religious, so I'll pray for your son, the wife and you.

Have an excellent vacation, and remember, it's a vacation, not a work. Let things come to you.

Sorry to hear about it. At least your Son is alive. Unfortunatley soem Children feel that they are invincible. Some get a wake up call and some don't get to wake up again.

Glad he survived mostly in one piece, Mike. Although it is hard, maybe it will be a good thing for him in the long run. That is thinking about his behavior and the consequences. Most boys have to have one or two of those before they grow up. I did and survived, luckily.

Mike---- My best wishes and prayers for your family.

Please take some stock in what has been returned to you while you are resting on vacation. Maybe you have been given a second chance for a reason? Maybe his second chance is also for a reason?

In any event, I hope ALL goes well in the future. Bob [supertooth]

Jgrinz,

Sorry to hear that about your son. Best wishes for you and your son and have a good vacation! I've always appreciated your kindness on the forums.

My cousin recently broke/fractured her foot and snapped the bones in half. She might need to have pins put in place.

Looking at the pictures and having gone through similar experiences, you need to at least thank someone, perhaps yourself and to him, that it sunk into his head that wearing a seat belt does and can save lives.

Take care, we’ll be here when you get back.

It sounds like your family is already blessed, Mike, but I'll offer my family's blessings in addition. Be careful on your trip and enjoy your family as if you only have them one day, because some day you may.

I'm glad to read that your boy's going to be okay. I used to drive a car that looked almost exactly like that! Wow.

When you're in Myrtle Beach, take some time and drive a short ways down to Huntington Beach State Park. It's much calmer (and much more beautiful) than the crazy Myrtle Beach scene.

If you have a metal detector, take it with you.

Mike - I'm glad that your son did not emerge from the accident any worse than you describe. I hope that he has a full and swift recovery. I hope also that your health issues are not overwhelming and that you also speed to good health. Take good care of you and yours.

I hope this is a good lesson for your son. We learn more from our mistakes than not making any. I lost my five year old to a 79 year old with tunnel vision and bad reflexes. Twenty five years later the pain is still fresh. Thank the creator that you still have him. Enjoy the time with your family. John

Mike , know the feeling you get with teenage kids trying to be 'adults' too fast...some heart-to-heart time .....and stay away from the tourist spots until you have both recouped a bit...way too many 'hotties' on the beach ....course that might sink the idea in when the ribs start hurting and being surrounded by beautiful chicks running around everywhere and your son not being 100%.....of course , a secluded location would be better to avoid all the fuss .

I hope you guys can connect , in some way , and maybe try to find out if he is 'wide-open' because he is worried in the back of his mind about his Dad? Your health is probably on his mind in the cluttered recesses of that teenage mind too , so don't discount that , reassure him that , like now , you are still here for him and that he should try to 'slow down' a little bit .

You too , man , try to slow down and relax an recharge . Hope all goes well ....watch out for the infamous speed-traps along Conway...and all the Barney's hiding behind the billboards on the way in an out of MB.

-John

Believe me, Joker, your boy got off lucky. I image trauma all of the time and getting by with a compression fx and a broken ankle is pretty, darn lucky.

I'm glad that he's ok, though!! There's been enough tragedy this week on the boards.

So, enjoy the beach, soak up some rays, relax and continue to be thankful for the blessings you do have in your life. (thumbs u

Take care, bud!
