How Does NCS Know?

2 posts in this topic

How does NCS know what someone wants done (or not done) to a coin they send to them for their review? Perhaps what they think should be done and what the owner wants may be different.

During the evaluation process, NCS makes a determination as to whether the coin needs or will benefit from conservation and what procedure will be most effective.

In majority of cases, the problem that needs to be addressed is easily visible on the coin and NCS technicians address that problem.

In some cases, the submitter will make suggests about why he/she thinks the coin needs to be conserved or has special requests about the conservation. Requests include such things are removing residue but leaving the toning.

For the most part, NCS is able to address these specific needs or concerns. If there is any question about the conservation of an item, NCS will contact the submitter. However, most conservation issues are rather cut and dry.

We try to balance the needs of the owner with the needs of the coin.
