Heavily corroded ugliness, but since its the overdate you'll probably still get good money for it. I guess I would grade it $2000. It would be worth more in a different slab.

This is one of those coins that, like some early copper, could benefit from being lightly burnished.

 

Yes, I am afraid that I am suggesting the coin should be doctored :devil: .

Just out of curiosity, why is it in a SEGS slab, rather than NCS or ANACS, both of which I would think would get you more money.

 

NCS wouldn't grade it (only authenticate it).

SEGS doesn't get coins like this wrong.

 

"MS66" Morgans and the like, sure- SEGS is problematic, but damaged coins like the 18/17 is right up SEGS grading alley.
