1879-S Morgan which Rev.?? and possible grade?

 

got this coin the other day and wasn't sure on which rev. it has

 

any info would be great also is this a cud in the 8 or is that normal for morgans?

Nice Morgan, copperman. I would guess MS64, reverse of 79(slanted feather/short nock), and possibly a VAM due to the 8 but I don't have time to research it. JMO. Great coin.

Looks like you have the Vam but I'm going with Mark here, to bad of nics on the Obv, looks MS62 to me. Still not a bad price. Good pickup!!

That is most often called a filled die chip. A cud is a die break along the rim which gets its name because it looks like a cow's (chewing) cud. That little die chip, by itself, would not rate a VAM designation. Die chips between the loops of an "8" on the dates of Morgans are very common.
