1990 50 ECU Irish Gold Coins. How much worth?

If your Irish 50 ECU has a deer on it, it is # X-3 in "Unusual World Coins" by Colin Bruce ll. The ECU (European Currency Unit) coins were first minted, often as patterns or test coins, by what had become the European Union and now, of course, they use the EURO. As Conder101 states, they aren't "real" coins as they were not intended to circulate. I have several silver ECU coins in my Music coin collection. Anway, your coin had a mintage of 5,000 and it contains approximately .4422 ounces of gold. "Catalog value" lists the piece at $475, but I would feel that this evaluation is based on gold content and there is no great collector value to the coin. So, with almost 1/2 ounce of gold in the coin, the catalog value is fairly close to current gold content value.
