clipped befor or after?

The shape of the clip does not match the coin it came from.

 

Does that matter? If it does, how do straight clips happen? Do they happen differently from curved clips?

Someone with more knowledge can correct me if i am wrong, but I believe that a straight clip is from the edge of the sheet from which the blanks are cut.
