1881 S before and after

What was your motive for the bath? Is there something in the before pics that you wanted to get off that I can't see?

 

I prefer the before coin to the after one.

My motive was due to when I cracked it out the stuff that looked like toning on the reverse was actually a sticky substance and rather ugly in hand.

I liked the before better. If the stuff on the reverse was something sticky you should have tried distilled water and if that didn't work then acetone to see if it could be removed without altering the toning. The MS70 has altered the surfaces of the coin and it looks it.
