Lincoln Matte Proof Diagnostics - Is this One ?

9 posts in this topic

Having no clue what the Diagnostics for the Matte Proof is - Can Anyone tell me if this is ONE. The only thing I know about them is that the Background fields were like a sand blast effect and that it tones unevenly because of it. This coin kind of has that look ... What do you think ??

That coin looks absolutely nothing like a matte proof. Perhaps you have been fooled by the latent fingerprint on the obverse fields.

A matte proof would have squared rims. Your coin is as round as can be--still talking about the rims here. ;)

I was going to pull out my book on the subject, but then I saw the photo. That coin is not Proof and it's not even Mint State. I've seen much sharper strikes on Mint State 1909 Lincoln cents. That one is not deceptive.
