Not taking away from this NGC board, which does rock......

Does anyone know how hard and expensive it is to set up a board? One where blatant profanity and general slander could occur. Somewhere where a piece of good old American porn could live side by side with say, a shiny Special Olympics commemorative dollar?

Do I sense a tounge-in-cheek? Well, I will take it semi serious, anyway...

 

Don't know about the porn and slander part but a forum can be set up for free if you have a web host that supports php and mysql. A decent host that supports that might cost $100 a year (maybe less if it was a bare bones host).

 

One of the free forum software setups is phpbb. There are others that are free, I think and still more that cost $$.There are other forum setups that are free and are hosted (read ad supported, slow, limited, etc.)

 

I use phpbb and getting it up and running was a breeze. Customzing it to what I have took some knowledge and time. Fixing anything that you might screw up while running the board takes more knowledge.

If you don't have the hardware to spare, could also use a board hosting service like EZBoard. They do have some rules, however, but better than using Yahoo or MSN.
