Buying trip?

51 posts in this topic

Well, let's see. I've been kicking this around for a while. I still don't know whether it's feasible or profitable, but I would like to drive cross county(or upcountry) on a buying trip, stopping at local coin shops, then sightseeing along the way with stops at national parks. My plan is for a 2000 mile rountrip. Any suggestions? I am based out of the central coast of CA. I have been told that out of the way shops(like in Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska) might be good.

If you are coming north on the way to Montana a stop at Crater Lake would probably suit you and then a trip through the Columbia River Gorge while on your way to Spokane would show you some sights also. As far as stopping at coin shops in Oregon...Don't waste you time. You will probably have better luck in Wyoming than here. The Northwest is very Coin Poor. confused.gif

They printed as many issues of this as they normally do, and after the "error" in the art was discovered, it was recalled. How "rare" it is really depends on how many dealers sent the comic back. I'm sure most capitalized from this instant 'collector's item" and sold them for whatever extra $'s they could get. I'm sure on any given day about 20 odd issues are on sale on e-bay.

Thanks. My LCS owner today was talking about the book given the upcoming Elektra Movie. He was told there are less than 600 Elektra 3 nude copes. I am just trying to confirem that number since it seems so low. You think there are more that that?

. He also reminded me that this is a Bendis book and people don't remember that. Does anyone have a picture of the controversial frame. If posted before I will try to look for it..

I can't see how this book can be called a error unless someone blind folded his butt smirk.gif

I tryed to buy a copy of this book from Mile High comics once for kicks but they wanted me to fax some proof that I was over the age of 18 27_laughing.gif I guess they didn't want to get busted for selling porn to kids. Needless to say I never got it since I didn't want my name on some kinda porn watch list 893whatthe.gif

Now why would a dealer tell you there were only 600 copies? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Latest CGC Census shows a total of 246 certified copies of this edition.

At first the only copies released were to the retailers who were signed up to receive preview copies 1 week early. The "nude" copies were these. Once they were outed, marvel destroyed all but 5000 and offered them to us at extortion prices, can't remember what it was, but I dismissed it because, well never mind. I am thinking it was we had to buy 100 copies at $5.00 each. I'm too lazy to find the paper work, and i lost all those e-mails in a HD crash. I am almost sure it was 5k, but it could have been less, but not much less.

So was this supposed to be a retailor variant like lets say the Wolverine # 20?

The actual print run was 70,000. The copies were destroyed except for 5000. Those were offered to retailers in increments of 100 @ $5.00 each to help Marvel pay for the editorial mistake. It was an intelligent move on Marvel's part to not simply lose a lot of money for a moral decision. You might remember the Wolverine 131 that had an editorial slip which changed the word "killer" into "kiker", an ethnic slur referring to Jews. It was immediately recalled and that comic was destroyed. There are still copies of the slur version floating around. That is truly a tough book to find in high grade in quantity. 893blahblah.gif893scratchchin-thumb.gif893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Speaking of that Wolverine #131 racial slur variant issue, I've got a CGC 9.6 copy with white pages for sale if you or anyone else is interested...PM me with an offer if interested. wink.gif

As for the Elektra #3 variant, I think the moral here is "caveat emptor". 600 copies out there my foot. I recall sellers advertising when the book came out that 3000 to 5000 copies survived, and the fact that 246 copies have been graded already should tell you something. Great cover on that issue, though.

Of course, there was no full-blown nudity. She was shown in silhouette/shadow on one page and it was deemed too racy that there was no indication that she was wearing any underwear (i.e., no bra strap or hint of knicker showing in the light). The corrected version just added these accoutrements to the affected panels. Not a big deal, but that didn't stop the drooling fanboys (quite literally, in this case) and hucksters from hyping up the variant angle.

I called one of the Mile High Comics stores. He agreed that there are maybe 4K+ that survived not 600. That helps clear it up for me. He said a lot were read of course so don't expect a lot of super high graded ones. Great information on this forum.

I do not recall Diamond ever soliciting me on the Nude recalls.

I remember receiving a memo that stated they were recalling them and the shipment might be delayed due to the reprint process.

The day that the #3 came in I checked it against the preview copy I had and I could notice the difference, but I never saw any type of offering for $5. I would of ordered all they had and controlled the market if that was the case.

I do recall that DF put out a special version of that book. I think I have 3-4 copies, of which 2-3 of them are the DF version.

I can get some pictures of them, but by the time I do that, this post will be over and poor Elektra will be a granny with kneesocks.

This just isn't any variant. This is a nudity variant. Also throw in Bendis and a print run of this lowlatude and you have a comic that you want to own for the future.

With Elektra going to the masses via a movie every 13 year old boy is going to be looking for this comic. IMO. Anyone have a couple they want to sell me. thx.

I'll buy one also but not if I have to sign some deal proving I'm 18, although I wished I was wink.gif

And who knows how many more copies were "used". 893whatthe.gif

Do you mean in the Greggy sense, that some can't be encapsulated due to sticky substance?

Also throw in Bendis

I dont think this is gonna help the value too much considering he writes something like 453 books a month.
