1853 gold dollar Cant really tell but it looks better than G-4 to me. Have my fingers crossed on this one. Seller said no holes or damage but still calls it a g-4

What would be the melt price for a gold $1?

Ray

.04837 oz. x $950 = $45.95

( I don't know what spot price is now - just used $950 as an example.)

darn paid 80 for it lol

Are you thinking it may have a mint mark?

^^ you nailed it before I even got it. I asked the seller if she could look at the back for a mint mark due to the fact that she said she had no clue about coins. This was 15 minutes before the end and she said she see's a D on it that she didn't realize to look for .

From coinfacts.com:

Mintage:

Circulation strikes: 6,583

Proofs: 0

Designer: James Barton Longacre

Diameter: ±12.7 millimeters

Metal content:

Gold - 90%

Other - 10%

Weight: ±25.8 grains (±1.7 grams)

Edge: Reeded

Mintmark: "D" (for Dahlonega, GA) below the wreath on the reverse

If this is indeed a Dahlonega minted coin, you suck. Looks like even damaged coins sell for $750+ on Heritage, certified by ANACS.
