What do all these things mean?

2 posts in this topic

I submitted three Jefferson error coins and the results were as follows:

001 2007S THOMAS JEFFERSON DOUBLE STRUCK 1ST O/C

002 2007S THOMAS JEFFERSON DOUBLE STRUCK 1ST O/C

003 2007S THOMAS JEFFERSON DOUBLE STRUCK W/ROTATION

So what does "1st O/C" mean and what does "Rotation" indicate (besides the obvious). What was rotated?

Dear Jeff,

O/C means Off Center. This means that the planchet was not properly "centered" in the dies when it was struck causing only a portion of the details to be visible on the coin.

Double Struck W/Rotation means that the coin turned in the die after the first striking and was struck again "rotated" from the alignment that it normally would have.
