Latest submission to NGC

30 posts in this topic

Well, I have 30 coins at NGC waiting to be graded on three different tiers.

5 gold coins @ gold rush - These are already in scheduled for grading:

1928 Saint $20

1874-S Liberty $20

1910-S Indian $10

1903-O Liberty $10

1851-O $1

5 Early Bird (Free submission for renewing):

1873 $1 Gold

1869 Seated Liberty Dollar

1883 Shield

1850 Large Cent

1832 Half

20 Modern:

10 2001 P Kennedy's

10 2001 D Kennedy's

I will update this thread once I get the results. Coins were received on 01/02/2008. Estimated result dates should be 01/08/08 for gold rush, 01/18/08 for Early Bird, 01/23/08 for Modern.

Wish me luck. All of the gold and early birds are resubmittals.

Not really. I bought a bag of the mixed P & D from the mint. I found about 40 good coins that I thought might grade high enough to sell and make a slight profit. I still have a bag of 2007's to go through and 2 bags of 2007 D Sac's to go through.

The last Kennedy half to be placed into circulation was the 2001-D. The 2001-P was never put into circulation. Since then, the coins were minted for sets and collectors.

Dwaine, good luck with the D-Sac's. The pickings are very slim, but I would say that if you are lucky enough to find one or two 68's, you will definitely make up for the cost. I went through one $250 bag, and I found about two dozen that should grade 67 or (possibly?) 68. I still have three more bags, but I don't know if I will search them or not.

I got several MS68's out of the 2001 Mixed P & D bags of Kennedy's and, of course, the one on my sig line, but it is only a 64.

Good luck. When you say resubmittals do you mean resubmitting to NGC or crossovers. Just curiow especially if you are rersubmitting to NGC for a second time. Would be intrested to hear.

Thanks Chris. I remember earlier in the year that the D Sac's were not that great. I am thinking of keeping one bag unopened.

Rey - most of these I had cracked out of their holders and put in my 7070. However, I am in need of some money so I sent them in to get graded again. Some I am hoping to upgrade some probably will not and some are cross over's as they were in PCGS holders and I don't belong to PCGS.

Well gold results are not good.

1928 Saint went down one point from a 64 to a 63.

1874 and 1910 got the same grade.

1903 and 1851 both say Obverse scratched.

The Early Bird is still in Scheduled and the Modern Kennedy's are still in Received.

Who knows, maybe you'll make up for it by single-handedly doubling the NGC population of MS68 2001 Kennedy halfs. Good luck on the rest of the grades.

I do too. The Kennedy's went to Quality Control today so I hope to get them and my other order later this week.

I have another 20 Kennedy's ready to send in depending on how these do.

I will wait for these to come back and will use these as reference to try and refine the others that I have. These will probably go up on Ebay except for the 64's and maybe the 65's will be freebie's for my repeat customers on Ebay.

If anyone is interested in one other than 010 and 020 please make me an offer.

I am surprised that they got finalized before my earlybird submission. I guess free submission might take a little longer.

Letest grades are back and they are one point lower than before. Seems like they are grading more conservative than before.

1873 G$1 Open 3 - MS62 - was MS63

1869 $1 - AU55 was AU58

1883 Shield - Cross from PCGS was MS64 now MS63

1850 1C MS 64BN - was MS65BN

1832 50C Improperly Cleaned - was AU55

Dwaine....it does appear they are tightening up considerably. Must have been a bummer to see those grades, but that 1832 50C had to STING...they slab it AU55, then BB it totally for cleaning this time around?.....my condolences for the beat down.

Where did you obtain the Kennedys? I have all the Mint Sets from 1970 and all the Proof sets from 1968 from the US.Mint.

What would be my chances of getting a good grade if I sent in say a 1970D right out of the OGP?

I bought a bag of mixed P & D from the US Mint. They still had 2001 bags. Not sure if they still have them or not. I have found a good coins from mint sets but you have to really search for them.

Funny all the talk about how harsh NGC is about the grading, downgrading coins, lowering the grade when doing a crossover from NGC, and even taking a previously graded coin and then making it a no-graded for being cleaned.

If you look at other boards, right in this neighborhood, NGC hands out 70 grades like they were going out of style, the theory being that PCGS is the only solid grading service.

Clearly, that notion, which I never believed, is disproven once again.

I was speaking mainly about the earlier Kennedys. I cleaned out one of my Safe Deposit boxes and I have a complete set of Kennedys in a Dansco Album. I had forgotten I had them.Everybody talks about the 70D which is there and it looks like it is in really good shape.

I also have all the Mint sets from 1970 to today so I have the 70D in the OGP.I don't know what U.S. Mint did back in 1970 but I do know that either in 1970 or 1971 that the only way you could get the Kennedy was through a Mint set.It would seem that it would be in pretty good condition.

Also wouldn't the Mint set coin in OGP be a better grade than the same year and date in Bags?
