There are 26 stars on the reverse of the 1836 Gobrecht dollar. Each represents a state of the union at the time - the 13 large stars represent the original 13 colonies and the 13 smaller stars represent the new states added up until 1836.

Yes. That was common practice then, but they discontinued that whenever they ran out of space for all the stars. That's why the early bust coinage went from 13 stars to 17 then down to 13 again -- all due to space reasons. What do I win?

 

And, TDN, I think you have to enter in a URL whose file suffix is a recognized image file type. JPG or BMP are two common image suffices, but ASP is not.
