OLD COINS AND DOCS

10 posts in this topic

Hello,

I am new here and trying to get a rough idea what these things I have might be worth.

Please take a look and let me know.. If interested in them or, what you think they are worth. I have no clue!

I am not a coin guy, but some of those early ones were quite attractive. What would be a nice looking set somebody could put together for a relatively inexpensive price?

Braided Hair Cents (1840 - 1857) 18 coins excluding overdates in the grade of FINE might run $880.

2 Cent pieces (1864 - 1872) 9 coins excluding 1873 PROOF and settling for a LARGE MOTTO 1864 might be $752 in FINE. The 1872 has a mintage of only 65,000 and is the big money coin of the set.

Indian Head Cents (1864 - 1909) 47 coins excluding overdates, double die and "pointed bust" varieties. The 1877 is expensive even in the lowest grades ($850 in the grade of GOOD) and there are at least 4 $100+ coins in the grade of FINE.

Try putting together a date set - 1853. The Philadelphia issues of that year are plentiful, and, excluding the larger denomination gold and silver coins, affordable all the way up to ms63 or so. The coins are nice looking, especially the arrow & rays reverses, and you can even throw in some California fractional gold or hard times tokens for fun. (thumbs u

Well, it depends on how early you want to go.

A Morgan Dollar date set in circulated grades is not out of reach for many people, my 9-year-old cousin just started his set. The morgan dollars ran from 1878-1904, and then again in 1921. The 1893 and 1895 are difficult, maybe $200 coins, but the rest can be had for $20-$30.
