Uncirc. 1955 Dimes...

7 posts in this topic

A older lady came into a store where I worked a few years ago with a near complete roll of uncirculated 1955 US silver dimes (no mint mark). Unusual in that she proceeded to pay for her purchase with said silver dimes. Even more unusual is that this happened in Canada.

The point is: I have 38 beautiful uncirculated 1955 silver dimes. Is there anyone in the world who cares? confused.gifgrin.gif

What do these coins generally sell for?

Thanks!

Very cool stuff! Said dimes are likely worth around a buck each, but a dealer won't pay that for them. If you are very lucky (and it seems you may be!), they could be worth upwards of $20 or $30, depending on condition.

Great story! Did you ask her out on a date? blush.gif

Many of your coins seem to have a mint mark...The mint mark on these dimes is located on the reverse to the bottom left of the torch. they seem to be made in San Francisco.

It looks like she paid you with dimes that were 1955-S as the mintmark is on the reverse next to the base of the torch. Uncirculated rolls of this date go for $23 (US) as listed in the Greysheet so they are about 50 cents (US) each. At shows dealers will often sell them individually for about $1 (US) each.

Yeah, a buck a piece would be generous in bulk, but offering singles would perhaps bring more, however is it worth the time???. Probably better to keep them for now.
