27 posts in this topic

Hi all .. guess you all new this post would come at some point lol

We have had most other things but i cannot remember anyone doing it for the most underrated of all the "Older" USA coins so it's about time they got there rightful place hear..

So if you have any Shield two cents or shield nickles please post them hear :headbang:

It would be nice to see some slabbed ones so people can understand the grading of these.. also varieties.. but not forgetting Cuds/Die cracks and all the interesting reverses in the group..

Do not worry about attributing the coin i am sure the specialists out there will give all the help needed

Hear is an old classic of mine to get the ball rolling

I really enjoy the challenge of collecting Shield 5c by die variety. Part of the enjoyment is knowing that I'll never be done . . . the fun is never ending. As challenging as it is to collect by variety, I've found it just as difficult -- if not even more difficult -- to assemble a set of gem grade attractive Shields. It's hard to find coins on which to spend your money collecting this series; but, it's easy to spend the money once they're found. Here's one of my favorites:

This website doesn't have enough storage space for me to post my shields. :-)
:blahblah::blahblah::blahblah:

I thought I scanned all my Shield Nickels, but now I see I have lots of work to do. Here is one.

No one said you had to post them all. There's some middle ground between nothing and everything. :hi:

Say . . . that one looks like it might be a later die state of this obverse paired with a different reverse.

I think that I might have that die marriage, but I haven't photo'd it yet. Time to get to work! :)

Nice 1866's guys,

Here is another one, MS 63 sorry for the image "noise" needs to be re-imaged. And the size as well, had to pull off of picasa and can't resize right now.

IGWT, the thread title is "Post Your Shields", not "Post Some of Your Shields". -big grin-

If you were to take the thread title that literally, you'd be listening to the coins. ;)

I think we should bug skippy until he starts a Shield Nickel mint year series on this forum. Something needs to be done to stir up some interest in the series. Many of us enjoy displaying our coins, and learning a bit about the Shields.

The Capped Bust Half Dollar series I started across the street has been a huge success. We have over 150 members that have contributed to the series. Shield Nickels need some similar help.

Ummm... I moderate Yahoo Shields. I maintain ShieldNickels.Net. I created an attribution program (SNV). I've written several articles on shield nickels. I contributed to QDB's book on shield nickels. I respond to all emails I receive about shield nickels.

If all that hasn't stirred up more interest in the series, I don't know that a forum topic here would.

Well, this little thread stirred up my interest to scan all my Shield Nickels tomorrow. There are lots of us that have an interest in Shields, but not enough interest to frequent your special web sites. We like to show our coins, and look at other pretty coins. Education sometimes needs to be a bit of fun.
