Another mystery piece...can you help?

3 posts in this topic

Hello again.

I purchased this in LaPaz, Bolivia in 1978 and never could quite figure out what it was. It measures roughly 1 5/8" by 1 1/2", weighs 2.3 ounces. The back is blank and the composition is a mystery too. Any ideas?

Thank you, gentlemen.

It looks like the equivalent to a St. Christopher's Medal. There are saints for every facet of life so if you can identify the saint then you can identify what it was used for.

It looks brass-like, too.

Interesting theory. I never even considered that. I kinda' got hung up on the bust wearing what I thought was Inca warrior clothing....but I don't think there were too many Inca saints. Of course, the Spanish did a number on Bolivia/Peru and did bring Catholicism to those parts...so your idea has merit. Much appreciated!!!
