Un centavo Mexican coins

4 posts in this topic

Hi Darksiders. A world coin dealer at a show gave me an old bronze Mexican Un Centavo coin and its gotten me interested in them. I collect US large cents and appreciate the similarities.

Where can I get more info on these coins?

Can you guys point me in the right direction via a website or a book?

The general reference with a lot of info is the Standard Catalog of World Coins (try a library).

Mexican centavos were first issued in 1863 with the smaller modern types beginning in 1901. A small copper-nickel type was even issued 1882-3. The coppers ran until 1949 with brass centavos from 1950 until the last year they were minted in 1973.
