Originals and Restrikes

I've followed the articles in Gobrecht Journal regarding this issue, and I've recommended that NGC's graders not attempt to distinguish between originals and restrikes at this time. I'm not convinced that a definitive determination has been made.

For that reason, NGC does not label Gobrecht Dollars as either Original or Restrike. Rather, we simply label them by Judd number and the composition, whether Silver or Copper.

There are still some coins holdered by us years ago that may be labeled Original or Restrike, but these designations no longer appear in our Census Report. The coins are included, of course, but without distinction beyond composition and J number.
