1829 half dollar Strange 8 question

It's a contemporary counterfeit. These were intentionally made with shallow details so that they would appear to have circulated and would arouse less suspicion.

This is a collectable contemporary counterfeit, and a common one. I pay about $25 - $30 for these. Actually, in this low of a grade, probably more like $15 - $20.

 

Which ain't much different from what a real one is worth in this condition...

Very interesting. It was obviously made by the same person who created Davignon 2-B, 8-H and 8-I. It appears to be the B reverse, but it is neither the 2 or 8 obverse so currently it is unlisted, but it has been quite some time since the Davignon book came out. There are probably more counterfeit varieties known now,but no updates to the book.
