Counterstamp from British West Indies?

6 posts in this topic

Hello all! I usually stay in the U.S. forum, as it's more my comfort zone.

However, I just came across an Anchor 1/4 from the British West Indies. I haven't seen many of these pieces, but this one has a stamp on the obverse. It's not the regular badly punched initials, it's very neatly punched "S.S.W." across the center of the obverse.

I'll get a pic up in the next day or two - any thoughts?

The coin is definitely good. The stamp just looks a little too nice to be a random person with the initials S.S.W. hm

Any help from the Counterstamp crew?

I figured it was a Merchant or Bank stamp, since it's not listed in Krause or Bruce.

I wish the counterstamp book was a little more complete, as it's difficult to search by initials alone on google! :(

Thanks for the input!
