Did you know the Rothchild's...

<< Did you know that the Rothchild's began as rare coin dealers, which

started their fortunes. >>

Actually if the truth was known, Amschel Mayer Rothschild's father started as

a rag merchant. Generally, what the father is the son becomes. The family

was so poor that the father sold Rothschild into bondage to a banker. The

banker taught Rothschild how to evaluate coins, and that became Rothschild's

job.

Grading, evaluating and buying rare coins for that banker. When his period

of servitude ended, Rothschild continued that trade on the side. His primary

job was rag merchant. Because of his 'expertise' in evaluating and grading

coins, he was asked to purchase some coins for the Hapsburgs. He used his

commissions to purchase a few coins for himself. Over a period of time he was

able

to "pitch" the Hapsburgs to buy coins directly through him. Because he worked

on a much lower "markup" than the bankers who were buying and selling

numismatics, Rothschild found a fairly consistent customer in the Hapsburgs.

Over

the years, that business grew. He finally received a commission from the

Hapsburgs which increased his standing in Frankfurt, Germany, and his wealth

began

to grow.

When Napolean Bonaparte waged war on the continent and invaded Austria,

the Hapsburg had to flee to keep from being captured. The chests of gold that

the Hapsburgs had in their castles were secretly brought to Rothschild's home

in the ghetto in Franfurt and concealed. When the French arrived, they

arrested Rothschild and threatened to kill him and his family if he did not

reveal

what he knew about the Hapsburg wealth. Rothschild did not reveal anythng.

The French searched his home several times, but never found the hidden

compartment in the wall from the Hapsburg treasure was hidden.

When the British defeated Napolean and the Hapsburgs came back,

Rothschild's position was secured forever and the reputation of the Rothschilds

for

honesty and integrity throughout all of Europe--including France--became

legendary. Rothschild send his four sons to different capitals in Europe to set

up a

banking house. Meyer Amschel Rothschild, the eldest son, actually built the

banking house into the most powerful bank in the world. But yes, I knew

Rothschild started out as a seller of rare coins. I used that story in an ad

for

one of my clients about four or five years ago.
