  1. I received this Pair of NGC 61 Morgan Dollars, 1 Silver Toned, the other 1 Gold Toned, from a Submission I had just sent to NGC in February 2024. The Striking Contrast in Pure Gold Toned and Pure Silver Toned Caught My Eye. I'm superstitious and these 2 coins scream "Lucky" to me. Look for your self.

    C'mon, @Captain Murder !

We have tread this ground before.  I even suggested you change your User Name to give youself a fighting chance at a come-back, and what do you do?  Go back to selling, or attempting to sell your wares -- on the very same Forum you were asked not to!

The playground for buying and selling coins and related tchotchkes is COIN MARKETPLACE.  It is listed right alongside all the other NHC Forums.

I buy rare art at garage sales every weekend. My favorites are Chicles, and anything signed and Numbered. You should try this yourself, you might find a van gogh for "pennies" on the dollar.

I have a feeling you got one of your submissions back and received these grades. It has happened to me in my over roughly 700 submissions (I have retained roughly 500 slabs and sold off some of my self grading mistakes). I will be honest to all in this thread. I felt the same way you did when I started getting details grades back and I even approached NGC with the same idea here as you opened this thread with. The NGC response was the slab says Details grade does not determine value and that impairments negate numerical grading. It took me to think through the process and adjust my thinking to what the situation is.

The problem with assigning a numerical grade to a details coin is that would literally directly affect the value of straight graded coins in the market. Imagine under that system then having two slabs side by side, one labeled MS 65 and another labeled Details 65 - Cleaned. Everybody would know the FMV for the straight grade, but then the seller of the Details slab will be asking a price near the straight graded, just somewhat lower and also arguing that it is better than an MS 64 straight grade. That is the exact why a details numbering system won't work. There is one or many impairments involved. The price of such an impaired coin should not and cannot be based upon a numerically graded specimen and its value should be effectively lowered on the number and severity of impairments. Take for example some of the Trade Dollars I have seen over the years. There are some I have seen that probably would have graded MS 66 or MS 67 with the quality in the rim areas of the coin, but are so heavily chopmarked on both sides that they have no remaining center details left and are somewhat bent. You could not give that coin a label that says Details 66 in that state. Trying to say that coin is better details than a straight graded 65 would simply not be true.

Once again, let impairments and the number and severity of impairments sink in. Here would be another side by side example of why you cannot assign a number to a details coin. If one slab is AU Details - Cleaned side by side to a slab of the exact same type and mintmark of coin and the other slab is labelled AU Details - Corrosion, Rim Damaged, Tooled. Now if both of those said AU 55 Details, do you see where the seller of the more impaired coin would begin to argue that his coin is worth just as much as the one that is cleaned because they both say 55 on them? It is those exact situations of why you cannot assign any kind of numeric to a details coin.

Keep in mind, many decades ago, cleaning coins was partly considered an acceptable practice, and in recent decades collectors have upped the ante only willing to pay premium for coins with exceptional surfaces.

To conclude, when my first details slabs started coming back, it made me look harder at my coins. It taught me where my self grading was lacking. It taught me to look for specific issues when I do my inspections. If anything, it improved my self grading immensely. I have in recent years finally become better (although not perfect) at detecting cleaned coins and get many dealers who look at me surprised when I pass the coin back to them very quickly because I see hairlines right away or detect some other problem with the coin quickly. Needless to say, when my submissions return now, I get a box full of straight grades, a details grade that I knew was going to be there, and maybe only one where I have to sit down with and try to find where I missed something.

I think you should learn from those details grades you are getting back and strive for more quality.

Makes sense. I have 4 Peace Dollars I'm dreading sending in. Looked like 66's or 67's when I bought them. Well have to wait and see.

You were not accused you were called out for spamming the forum by blatantly posting and hyping your ebay auctions in sections of the forum other than the marketplace.   The rules are clear for anyone that can read and comprehend english, you are allowed to post about and provide links to items you currently have for sale on ebay in the marketplace section of the forum.   You are not welcome to spam the entire forum with your ebay sales, don't be a forum nuisance and you will get far less grief.

As a person trying to sell something I would think that you would understand that if you are perceived as a problem it will make it harder for any potential buyer to trust or buy from you.   So far your behavior on this forum has been that of a ten year old with ADD, I would not buy a button from you personally and I think you will have a tough road overcoming your reputation with the members of this forum.

I apologize again. The rules were misleading, but I won't mention anything I'm selling anywhere except coin marketplace. Hopefully that clears up the issues.

I am selling faster than I can replace with any quality, so if you have coins for sale let me know. I try and offer very fair prices, usually above the larger dealers. I only focus on US coinage, and predominately in older (not modern) coins in higher grades. If you have something let me know before you send to auction or go to a dealer.

I am selling a bunch of NGC 61- 65 Morgans on eBay, as well as Gold 70's such as 2016 gold mercury dime,  2017 gold American liberty, and a silver American Liberty Medal 70. Check Me out on eBay... Jaymurdem@ eBay

  6. Guideline #3 is confusing. Makes vague mention to eBay as an exception for starting price. Does this mean you can mention item is being auctioned off on eBay, the upcoming starting date of the auction, and starting bid? Or that you can not mention eBay, for it is the exception to the forum rules? I have been accused of spamming for mentioning eBay, and accused of breaking forum rules for mentioning items that I am selling on eBay. Can you clarify Guideline # 3 and possibly make "Coin Marketplace" eBay friendly?

  7. Look like $1 Sacagawea coins from early 2000's. Worth something, but I don't believe there worth over $10 for all 3. Do you have bicentennial quarters from 1976? Those can be pricey if you have a rare one. Do your research, and be wary asking a local coin shop, they might low ball you and not mention certain rare coins to get them from you cheap. Keep trying, you might have a Cash Coin worth something.

  8. Anyone else spend Countless Hours Online trying to Find Raw Morgans to Purchase that'll Grade 67 or Higher? How bout 66 or higher Peace Dollars? I do...

What do you do when they come back graded Lower than Expected? Sell them on eBay? Sell them to your local Coin Dealer? Then try again for high grades? Fun way to Kill Time.

I'm selling a NGC 63 on eBay if anyone's interested and collects that Grade Bracket.

    Jaymurdem@ eBay

P.S. Where do you buy your raw Morgans and Peace Dollars if you participate in the Buy, Grade, and Sell Game.

A little assessment from the street...you ain' no neophyte... that's a bit played out now.  You were, however, smart enough to know the difference between a shiesty (note correct spelling; also spelt sheisty, and shyster which still carries a pejorative connotation.  And your crowning achievement was being savvy enough to focus on a coin series few collectors, including myself, were barely aware of.  I truly regret our fellow member missed the whole point of making a user name change and chose something that will only marginalize him further.  He's a neophyte sho 'nuf, sho 'nuf.  Plenty of time to learn the ropes.

I should probably stick to collecting Larry Bird BGS 10's, and Dan Marino Rookies.

I know it's against the Guideline rules, but I believe it safe to say observant members of the Jewish persuasion are all off the various forums now. I wish them all Pesach Sameach (Happy Passover).

Now, to the pressing matter at hand:  NN's stern admonition notwithstanding, anyone offering to sell you a Gold Sunken Pirate Ship Debloon (misspelled that way on this thread more than once, so Not a typo) is someone you ought to run away from as fast as you can. My bill for that legal advice will be in the mail shortly.  🤣

I have NEVER seen accrue spelt acrew, in any language.  Spot gold is up in fits and starts.  My feeling as a certified rank amateur with little or no real knowledge of precious metals' trends is all gold should rise proportionately but member z, who knows a thing or two about gold, has previously said (and I am constrained to agree) that spot gold affects bullion gold more so than pieces with numismatic value.  For example, the gentleman who owns the '33 D/E may be aware of general gold trends, but when you are talking about a unique piece whose last gavel price was in the millions, spot gold is not a critical consideration if it is one at all.

Incidentally, owing to Chat Board Guidelines and other considerations, I do not believe anyone would be inclined to give you the advice you seek, with or without a legal disclaimer. I am afraid the membership was instinctively right in chastising me for validating and enabling your conduct.  It is not only prohibited conduct, but bad form. I now regret the transgression. And I apologize to those learned members for their wise counsel.

    Well put...

To each his own, I collect what I like and see as worth buying. You collect what you see as a good investment with large profit margins. Same field, different sectors.

As far as your statement, solid points but too much disclaimer like filler. And I'll admit spelling is my worst subject. I'm more of a Math Team Gifted Honor Roll student with sloppy handwriting.

Last point, check out Perth Mint Gold Bars they have cute Kangaroos polka dotted on the Back and some times Ostriches, as well as Kine Bars, they have Holograms. Well Worth they buy for a Personal Collection as opposed to "Buy and Sell".

Garrett Brock Trapnell was the undisputed King of the NGI plea -- until he no longer was... Malheureusement -- and I apologize to those members who've endured this soliloquy before -- I am obliged to defend, with my life, your constitutional right to express your thoughts within the framework of the Board Guidelines.... (quick, somebody kindly provide z with that elusive retching emoji)... you did an admirable job on the Beach during spring break and, who knows, you may yet surprise everyone here with one of the finest comebacks the likes of which have never before been seen here.  I wish you the best of luck...  Welcome to the Big Leagues, camp man!

(Posted at the sole discretion of NGC Moderation)

Well put, have another mixed drink and give your thoughts an NGC 65 Gold Sunken Pirate Ship Debloon the seller expects me to pay $8,000 for.

Worth the Money? Or spend it on an older 1 Oz Canada Maple Leaf PCGS 70 CAC and a 1 Oz Gold Australia Kangaroo PCGS 70 CAC?

Looks like another user name change may be in order.... let's consider the possibilities... I am going to refer to you [privately, of course] as MartyrTm, a play on martyrdom.  I am afraid redrum just doesn't cut it and 69 is too reminiscent of tekashi69. Tm?  No, not ™️, but Thulium, a silvery-white rare earth metal, atomic # 69 on the Periodic Table, or Tm for short.  Anyway, short of yelling, "Rewrite!" you can always remake or reinvent yourself with a new name and a fresh approach. I did it and, as I am fond of reminding my many detractors... STILL HERE, STILL STANDING, STILL STRONG!  :sumo:

To my brethren on the Forum:  I have been accused of reckless rumination, but indiscriminate urination?  NEVER!  To the member who was kind enough to write to me and say I was "a great man," I guess you understand me better than most.  🐓

I took your Bad advice and changed my name to a Disney Pirates of the Carribean theme... Captain Murder... you should get a cool Spartan Chariot icon to go with your French name.

Regarding ICG graded coins, you will find that the majority of coins offered will sell for a value that is a point or two lower than the encapsulated grade.  Upon crossing to NGC or PCGS, most will be in this range.  There are abundant stories of ICG and ANACS crackouts that obtain a similar grade from PCGS and NGC that they had on the coin.  But the ultra high grades of coins where the NGC/PCGS populations are zero or quite low need to give you pause.

Regarding book values/PCGS/NGC price guides stop using them as a tool to decide appropriate pricing.  Use completed auction prices.  Here is NGCs page.. https://www.ngccoin.com/auction-central/us/

Price guides try there best, but are still terrible.  within each grade there are good coins and bad coins.  So the good ones may go for higher prices and the worse coins for lower.

I have an 1986-S Silver Eagle ICG 70. What do u think it's worth? It's on my eBay if you want to look at it to give me an honest opinion. Should be the second priciest Silver Eagle after the basic 1986.
