In addition to the weight being within tolerance, the coloration of the coin is normal for a copper-nickel clad coin, not the softer white of a silver or silver clad coin.  The edge of the coin being brown or copper colored would be a definitive indicator that this is an ordinary copper-nickel clad 1998-D quarter.

Although, as I recall, a few 1974-D and/or 1977-D half dollars and dollars are known on 40% silver planchets that were intended for production of bicentennial coin collectors' sets at the San Francisco mint, that was in the era that such sets were being produced. What are the odds that any such planchets would find their way to the production floor of the Denver mint over two decades later?

Good question. Though, I realize this is not one of them but what are the odds of most rarities? :) Thanks for the additional information. Very helpful.

Don’t forget there is a mint tolerance of .19g so yours is still within tolerance.

Thank you. It's so confusing when the the 1976 weighs 5.75. I calibrated the scale again, and below are some photos. I got 5.75 this time. I weighed it a few times and it never goes below that are usally higher. All my other coins are weighing properly. Just trying to be accurate.

  3. Hi All!

Just a quick question. From what I've researched here and with PCGS, quarters from 1932-1964 where made of 90% silver then changed to clad from 1965 on with the exception of 1976-S which is 40% silver weighing 5.75 grams if I recall. The glad quarters are roughly 5.67 grams.

I have a 1998-D quarter that weighs 5.77 grams. It was weighed on a coin scale with a PCS variation of -1.88.8.8.8.

Is this normal, or do I perhaps have a silver quarter for a year that has no record of them?

    Thank you,

You are posting stolen coins? And you are just in it to get rich quick off the stolen goods?

Excuse me? Do you not understand the fact that I'm a newbie? If I wanted to just sell anything without confirmation or authenticity, I wouldn't bother with this forum. What is wrong with you? Your judgement is out of place and makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. BTW, These are coins from my parents coin jar that they have just thrown coins in there for many years.

I appreciate all the professionals (not like you) that have answered my many posts with educational advise, as well as there honest opinions on my coins. That is what I expect. Not your BS. Please move on, and work on your unjustified judgement issues.

  5. Hi everyone.

Firstly, thank you all for your time with detailed information and suggestion from your responses regarding my previous post 1941-1969 pennies.

This first one, of course does not have a wheat back or I would be in trouble..lol. However, from what I understand,1959 to 1992 are supposed have wide AM's. Some AM's are easy to understand in difference, but I'm not sure about this one. Also DD vs DDO. I have studied this but still get a bit confused since there are different variations (subtle and extreme).

I basically don't want to bother putting anything up for auction unless there is a possibility of getting $1,000 or more. I also know that there are certain older coins that might not have errors, are still collectable if in decent condition and can command a good price (1962,1964..etc) The different price guides that I have looked at also, have different info, or don't even have some of the coins I have listed (might be a good sign, not sure..lol). There might be some things that I might have missed on the coins that I will continue to post, or they are just simply for saving.

I've been stealing hundreds of coins from my parents big water bottle for years now. I've been spending months picking through them and researching as much as I can. It is a bit overwhelming, but fun and perhaps I might get lucky. :)

    Hello and welcome!

Please do not refer to the FYI topic posted by dprince1138 or the posts made by him/her. It is full of incorrect information. This person believes himself/herself to be a coin "expert" but is most certainly not. The members on here have called him/her out numerous times while being constantly ignored and then followed by incorrect posts in just about every topic in the forum recently. We have reason to believe he is using this site as a claim of being on a top site while he is just using it as a "front" for his/her shady coin flipping business on Etsy and eBay.

I as well do not feel comfortable clicking any links (no offense please). I just don't click links from anybody regardless of the source.

Try to post clear, cropped photos of both sides of just one of the coins in this section of the forum to give us an idea of what you think may be errors.

You are exactly right. I have reason to believe he does other unethical practices, as well. I obviously can not say much in a public forum. However, I can say that I would not trust any link he provides, nor provide any personal info. I also understand why people are hesitant about clicking on a link. In retrospect, I would have not clicked on a link either for the reason I just mentioned. I was trying to find a way of uploading 15 coins in one post instead of 15 posts, as well as being secure. The link provided was secure and was only available for the specific folder. However, I immediately deleted the folder associated to the folder when I saw DPrice's comment. The coins from this batch (I also have batches for 1970's,1980's etc.) are specific coins from those years that I have narrowed down from my research. They are not just anything and everything, so I was hoping I could get a second opinion in a bulk fashion, and would continue to post batches, again narrowed down coins, from other decades. There are not too many that I have picked out, but too many to create individual posts for. Yes, the photos (front/Back) of the coins have been taken and labeled/described correctly. If anyone has another alternate, please share. Otherwise, I will keep studying so I can confirm myself whether or not, I have anything that might be worthy. Thanks to everyone!

  7. Hi All!

I actually feel bad about doing this. I don't want other people to figure things out for me. But, trust me, I have done my due diligence with studding, watching video's, looking a price guides and grading on rare and error coins. I'm just finding different information on different sites and it has been a bit overwhelming being a newbie. I love doing this and with further advise and information collected from the pros with this process, hopefully I won't have to reach out for help too much more.

I've inserted a link to a folder that has photos of the above dated coins from a batch that I have gathered that could possibly be worth selling. Again, I have my thoughts on each but I'm not sure. There is one Nickel, Dime and Quarter from the period that I added to the folder.

    Thanks for everyone's help.

They both are large date cents from the size and shape of the 8 and 2 as well as the distance to the rim at the 2.  See the attached infographic to help in the future.

@EagleRJO. I've been interested in rare, mint planchet, error coins for several years. I try to do my due diligence instead of just asking. I thought I had the large and small date figured out, but I guess not..lol. The chart you provided actually adds the element of WE when determining, that I didn't know and is helpful. Thank you. I have other coins from years of gathering that I need to narrow down. So maybe next time
