  1. Actually 6 of my coins are Plate coins in the book. You'll find them all in Appendix A. I suspect that the pictures were taken by a son in law of Rick's. I personally think the images in the book aren't particularly good.

The images of the '54-S were taken by Shane Canup. Most of the toner pictures that I've posted on this thread were taken by Shane or by Bob Campbell while the cameo proofs were imaged for the most part by Bruce Lee. Here's another plate coin.

  2. Hurricane, that is cool about your colleague's sister! Congratulations on "being" the Launch Director, that sounds like a LOT of fun. Speaking of fun, have fun with your new collecting!!! I look forward to seeing your new pieces.

Bsowa (any Red Sox offshoot there?), those are fun 1960 Franklins you posted. The proof is classic in that the Franklin proofs of 1960 and 1961 tended to have, for whatever reason, a fair amount of them that were mismatched cameos, e.g. much stronger cameo contrast on one side than on another. The toner looks great, I'd love to see it in hand.

Actually the color of my 1956 Frankie is a fairly classic color for (nicely toned) P mint Franklins from 1956 - 1958. For whatever reason, the P mint Franklins of the latter 1950's often toned a blue color.

I got lucky with that 1956 Mint Set that I got the above Frankie out of in that I got both that one, and this Frankie, which I sent in to PCGS and it came back MS66FBL.

Hey Hurricane, while collecting coins had been high on my list, particularly in the late 1980's early 1990's and from about 2003 on, over the last 5+ years they've dropped QUITE a bit in/on my collecting to do list. Given that you and Bsowa are relatively new here, you'll find out soon that over the last 5+ years I've REALLY started to use my collecting budget to buy items having to do with Space Exploration (predominantly NASA) from 1957 - 1975. My goal there is to collect at least one flown object from every Mercury, Gemini and Apollo flight. I'd say it's sucking up about 90% of my collecting budget. Here's a link to my recently completed "set" of items from all 10 Gemini flights.

I still Love coins, I just can't afford them and space memorabilia both, so I've become MUCH more focused on specific sets for my high end coin collecting, so I still get the thrill of the hunt, but there's not much outlay on the day to day end, as I only find 1 or maybe 2 high end coins a year. To keep my hand in in collecting coins, right now I'm collecting raw Franklins and Washingtons to fill Dansco albums. It's a lot of fun and relatively inexpensive.

Here are the '56 and '58-D from the Dansco album. I got them both out of Mint Sets that I own.

  4. ...I have a few (not photographed coins at NGC for grading and slabbing, but here is my first Franklin purchase an ANACS 1960 PR68 Franklin. It's in transit to my home at this time and I will have it repackaged in an NGC slab...

    That's a pleasant looking 1960.

It's almost impossible to grade proof Franklins (indeed, proofs of any kind) from images, because hairlines tend to be the limiting factor and they don't show up well in images. However, be aware that crossing a coin slabbed by company A to a coin slabbed AT THE SAME GRADE by company B is by no means a slam dunk.

In any case, as mentioned that's a nice '60 Frankie with decent cameo contrast. (thumbs u

  5. Hello & Greetings...

40 years ago, I set aside my coin collection with the challenges of raising a family and building a career. This year I retired, am a new Grandpa and opened up the old collection. I have lots of old stuff to sell off and decided to focus on purchasing PF 67 and better Franklin Proofs for trade whilst I work on securing investment coins for the future. My first purchase as a NGC Collectors Society member is an ANACS certified PF68 1960 50 cent. I assume as a new member, I must pass certain "probationary period" before I can post photos.

I do plan to have it placed into a new NGC slab once I receive the coin.

Glad to be aboard and look forward to sharing on this board

You can post pictures as soon as you like, I'd recommend Photobucket.

As far as mentioning selling or trading items goes, that should be in the NGC Collectors Society "Money Marketplace", (and/or at the equivalent PCGS "Buy, Sell, Trade" webpage). I assume you've already seen the Collectors Society assorted sites, but here is a link:

    Welcome aboard! :hi:

  6. That's a pleasant looking '57-D. I see what you mean about cranking up the saturation level on the image.

I have indeed been collecting Franklins for about 25 years now. In the late 1980's and early 1990's I was predominantly into CAM/DCAM proofs with some toned business strike coins. Starting about 10 years ago I got MUCH more heavily involved in toned business strike Franklins. I find that there is much more variety of look, and they are not as "fragile" as proofs. I still like proofs, I just haven't bought any in quite some time.

Here's a '57-D of mine. It's an NGC MS65FBL. It came from a Mint Set '57-D card, and I also bought both Roosevelts and one of the Washingtons, as they all had this lovely toning.

  7. Nice looking Frankies everyone! :applause:

Nice looking album toned '52 Bsowa! :applause: What date/mm is your avatar? It sure looks nice. BTW, you might enjoy my Franklin sets, you'll see their links at the bottom of my post.

It's a 57 D. Pretty cool toning on both obverse and reverse, unfortunately it's a little dark and really mutes the luster.

I have looked at your toned Franklin set and your proof set several times each. Both are very very nice, some incredible coins there.

Thank you for your kind words.

    That's a pretty '57-D. (thumbs u

Here's another Christmas colored one, only this one is a '48, which is a much tougher date/mm than the '58-D's to get with these colors.

I might have one or two Franklins floating around. Given that we're coming up on Christmas, here's a matched pair I got from a Mint Set card...
