Louis Eliasberg (1896-1976), a Baltimore financier, assembled a complete collection of United States regular-issue coins by 1950. His goal was to acquire every known date and mintmark. Eliasberg purchased the Clapp Estate Collection, which contained coins of extraordinary quality. He expanded this collection and added ultra-rarities.
