Anyone bought one of these?

Very scarce/rare, but is this just a Mint gimmick?  Canada has a load of privy marks on their coins.

I bought a 2023P ASE graded MS10  NCGX.  I was also very curious to see if this new gimmick would stand the test of time.  I had ANACS numerically graded coins (both sides) with images of the coins and the grading scale (I think it was 1-5?) back in the 1980s.  It seemed to be better than an overall grade now used.  Maybe it will be a novelty in the future?

No, I find them interesting but didn't buy any.  I'm familiar with the GSA coins as I got an 1883CC and 1884CC back in 1973 or so.  I believe the GSA had a lottery on them and I managed to pick up both in the GSA holders.

Thanks.  I was a USAF ER medic at a base outside of Saigon from Jul 68 until I got home on the 4th of July 1969.  I don't remember anyone saying welcome home except for friends and family.  I think the Welcome Home started some years later when people realized that we got no respect like the WW2 guys and no parades. I always thank the WW2 vets if I see one and tell them if not for their sacrifice, we'd be speaking German or Japanese right now.  Cheers, Bob

I agree with everything you mentioned.  However, I would replace the term "dealer" with "seller" as he didn't have a lot of coin sales per se.  In his listing, he even admitted he had no idea what the coin was, if it was double struck or die adjustment.  It belonged to his deceased Uncle and he wound up with it.  In essence, he would not be a seasoned veteran as are many of the people on this thread. I had excellent communication with him and find, at least as much as I can, that was honest and up-front with me.

I'm sure the experts on the forum can understand that not every eBay seller is at their level.  At least they should be.

I think this thread has beat the proverbial dead horse and should be closed.

While browsing Morgans on eBay, I see a lot of Redfield Hoard coins for sale in the Red Plastic holders.  Virtually all are classified as "gems".

Other than numismatic history, are these worth more than Morgans in TPG holders?

Does NGC grade these and affix the NGC sticker to the Red holder?

The dealer refunded my money.  He was going to send to ANACS to see if it is genuine or not and let me know the outcome.

That thought crossed my mind.  Maybe the coin and the doubling, etc., were original and someone had it plated later on?

I should have the coin by the end of this week.  If plated, I'll be returning it.  There was a lot of fierce bidding on it.  The dealer said he had a hard time taking images as the coin surfaces were so bright. 

I'll update the thread when I get it.

Yes, I'm a Newbie here on NGC.  Yes, I read all four sections before posting this question. 

I won this at auction on the Bay and would like to know opinions on what this is.  I couldn't find anything comparable to it on the Bay or anywhere else.

I don't have the coin in hand yet so can only post images from the auction. 

I'll probably send the coin to John Wexler for evaluation and hopefully get it in a holder (NGC? or ANACS)

Your opinions will be much  appreciated.
