This is what I meant. I enjoy it because I found a Franklin silver stash in the ground as a small child digging in the back yard in the 80s. The numismatics are meaningful to me, but not others so I don't worry about handling them. The relief and detail are easier to see on them. Most of American coinage is boring to me besides the dollar pieces and half dollars. Even the state quarters are put to shame by countries like Panama that print their own USD quarters. Thanks. I would love to learn more about where this fake come from. With the other fakes I found a bunch of exact copies, but not this one.

I inherited a box of coins which will be for my 8 month old daughter. I'm not a numismatist, but I collect coins from all of the countries I've been, plus love me some junk silver, especially Franklins. In the collection was a California Gold fake, a Continental Currency fake, and I had fun reading up on those, and looking at the past and present scam listings on eBay. With the Tyrian shekel I found, I learned what it was by searching the Greek letters. Then I learned about the dating system and common fakes. With this one I'm pretty certain it is fake because of the roundness, the wear, and the hints at casting on the edge. However, unlike the other fakes, I can't find anything that looks like this one. The date is LI (I think 117 BC). That's also suspect to me because people want it to be from the lifetimes of Judas and Jesus. The weight is a little over 14 grams, so that checks out. I don't do drugs, so only have a kitchen electronic scale. If anyone has any knowledge to share on the subject it would be wonderful. I chased some dead links down in the wayback machine, but info is sparse still. I am interested in where the fakes came from as well. The Continental Currency and California Gold ones where museum tokens. I can see this being the same.
