Boy, i wish i could smack the person with a stupid stick that did this to the coin. As newbie, how terribly does this impact the value? Not sure what this is worth now. Any thoughts?

Just got this coin back from grading. I think i will sell it. Any ideas on what i should ask? I see a few ms 66 FS 1972 D’s but not a 1972 especially an error to boot. Thank you for looking and any thoughts. Tom

First thanks all for answering my newbie questions. So I have another; what does it take for a coin to be recognized as a known error? The coin I have in question is the 1999 Delaware quarter. On the reverse of the coin it is completely missing the “E” in the phrase The first state. Instead it reads “the first stat”. There is absolutely no sign of a E. I did look online and found some topics that people were finding them and it is believed to be caused by a grease issue. But, how long would the Mint let something like this to run? And, if there are enough out there why does it not get recognized? I have only seen this one and some pics on-line so it must be rare. Sorry for the bad pic. Thank you.

Don’t we all grade our personal coins a bit higher in hopes?

Well, I am not surprised but I messed the submission form up. Sent in both ms and error coins for grading. Separated them but didn’t move them over to a 3rd sheet properly. Accounting called and was very nice. They fixed it over the phone. I can tell they are getting hammered there with volume. Now I am able to track on their site. So anyway, let the count down to disappointment begin. 🤔🤔🤔

So you think Betty Crocker may have borrowed the coin? It’s so difficult for me to tell. I look online and can see tons of coins that look AT but are naturally toned. These coin Dr’s are good. Would it be worth sending in?

Yeah JP that is throwing me. I don’t see any sharp lines in the tone or a spot on the collar where it may have been held. A soaking should not cause this design.

It’s a pretty coin and appears to have the line in the 6 VAR but I think it must have been altered. Any thoughts on this or grade? Thanks

No, I think I will leave the 1970 proof sets alone for now. I did spot a 1981 and I think this has the rare S mint mark. I need to get my microscope in from Amazon as I am blind from looking at coins for a week. That might be worth a crack open.

Good morning all. I am new and trying to understand what to look for vs what to put back in the box for another year. I selected a 1976 proof set from my dads collection. Black box with the stripper red velvet couch box. I am focusing on the Kennedy half at the moment. I understand these are only worth money in high quality. How do I figure that out? Also this seems to be a year that they made a few finishes. Am I right to assume this is a clad type 4? Is this coin worth breaking out? Thank you for looking. Tom.

Wow you guys are good. It so hard for me to see yet understand what to what am I looking at. For example I can’t tell if this would considered a type 1 type 2 SBA. My phones stinks at pics. I will look for a cheap microscope on Amazon and get a few books. Wish I had them now for pending snow blizzard here in NH.

What? People use a vice to do that? It seems like a mint error. No rough vice scratches plus the word “states” is messed up. I am going to put it in the pile to have it graded. Will report back on it. Too much stuff to go through. Will send off 10 or do coins I think.

Wow, this is a great hobby. My back is killing me going through his unorganized coins. Just came across this one: Coinbuf I have not yet spoken to Mike. He did quickly respond to me and will shoot me an email when he can. Thank you for your help and all others. So far I have been working on trying to organize by years, types, etc. then I guess will dig in to them. I think this is a double strike ( by Roosevelt head) with a full torch. Not sure the FT matters. Any thoughts from experts?

Thanks for the kind words. I am trying to get my state of affairs in order. I need a organ transplant that most likely won’t come so I am trying to organize for my wife. There is over quote lbs in coins most of the weight seems to be in $25 mint bags and mint rolls from the 90s. He has a 1855s $3 gold coin but it has scratches on one side pretty bad. I think what I want to do is get rid of a bunch of stuff. Keep some bullion and nice coins for her. If graded I thought it would be easier to sell.

Also, I just found this in one of the boxes. What is this type of error? Worth grading?

My father passed a few years back and I am starting to go through his coins, finally. A few questions right now; 1) I want a digital microscope to take pictures of coins. It would be ideal if I can get great pics and plug into my iPad. Thoughts? 2) should I purchase any type of 2022 price guides? I do have a bunch of error coins and lot of older coins. 3) Will NGC grade a 1994 Error Roosevelt dime a full torch? It seems to have one. It’s some sort of punch issue. You can see about 25% of the blank planchet. Would this even make much difference in value? Thank you for any help in advance. I hope I posted to right board. Tom.
