  1. Hi all, I've been going thru my circulated coins, just checking for proofs or anything else. I recently went thru a 100+ coins and noticed that for damn near everyone there's now a YouTube channel, eBay page, or similar saying something like "this 2023 Lincoln penny is worth $1000". I mean, nearly every coin. So I sifted thru my change and found these were the ones the crazy YouTubers were screaming about the most. I thought I'd go to the experts and see if any of these contain errors or similar. I do have a 1973 quarter that appears to have a flattened letter on the reverse but I'm assuming that's just wear and tear? Thanks.
  2. Thanks for all the replies, esp powermad5000. Yeah, I'm not trusting my eyes anymore! I'll just hang onto the circulated coin until I can get a really good look at it. I guess my phone camera is my new 'eye' now.
  3. I picked up two clad sacagaweas a couple weeks ago in change and thought they looked bright, shiny, nearly uncirculated. I took pictures of them just with my Samsung phone and whoa! was I shocked. I must be going totally blind because they looked great outside in the sun. They look like hell under my Samsung's camera. I don't trust my eyes at all now! P.S. Why is the turtle howling? WTH.
  4. Does anybody have an example (doesn't have to be post-mint painted) of coins that were all the rage that then lost value? BTW, as I stated earlier I only paid $40 for my AU 2012 dragon. And thanks folks, I did confirm that it was Perth mint and issued as a set of 10 including the unpainted silver proof. Haven't found out how many of these sets were produced yet? Also, I guess a few were minted and painted that were 5oz like the US Mint National Park 5oz.
  5. Thanks for your input RWB. This is interesting and explains why a dealer got so mad at me in 2019 when I inquired about getting a 2oz CA Moraine Lake coin graded. And the opinion that beanie babies or painted plates aren't worth anything and are just a fad ... um, I was watching Antiques Roadshow the other day. Some painted plate went for $8000. I think painted plates are dull as hell and cumbersome unless you will never be moving in your life but I don't think they're a fad or without value. And there's some purple beanie baby out there worth $11,000. Go figure. LOL
  6. I paid about $40 for the colored AU dragon BTW, not a huge sum.
  7. I'm curious then, why was this 2013 AU coin graded by NGC???
  8. Thanks for all the info. This is very interesting and I'm going to do more research ... and stay away from the coins on eBay LOL. Thanks.
  9. I have no idea. It's from Australian mint, that's all I know. It has a P on it ... I'm guessing Perth mint?
  10. I made a bad impulse buy. I was just looking around and thought I had under bid. Anyhoo, it's mine I like it. Was wondering: are modern world coins from Canadian Royal or Australian Royal mint worth less if they have been painted post minting? Are there any good articles on how and where modern coins are painted? Do the mints (CA, AU, US, etc.) have specific painting contractors they use or are there a lot? Just curious, thank you!
  11. Wow those look great. I have a newish Samsung Galaxy and get good pics with it but I have unsteady hands and my eyesight is not great.
  12. Hi all, I'm using a older (2011) Panasonic digital camera and a new LED magnifying light. I'm just looking for input on best ways to take pics of coins? I just realized shooting the obverse is more difficult than the reverse. Thanks.
  13. I had a feeling this was a scam. You buy 3 coins for $595 and "possibly" snag one among those 3 worth $1000. Sounds like Vegas odds.
  14. Hi, I snagged a 1.25oz Canadian silver coin a couple weeks ago. I have the 1.25oz 2015 buffalo slabbed/graded. This is 2019 ungraded. And, for fun, I bought 3 slabbed/graded coins off one of those Ebay 'estate sales' stores. I was just curious to see what I would get. Comments? Thanks.
  15. Hi, Somebody gave me this Rennie Faire coin in 1999. I can't figure out if it's pure copper or has lead center or what, it's kind of heavy. Anybody know how these are made and whether there's a market for them? Thank You. :)
  16. I just got this out of a change machine yesterday. I previously got 2 proofs out of it. I'm jazzed because I've gotten several Canadian silver quarters in the past, this is the first US quarter I've found. I know it's only worth a couple bucks just happy I found it. Wondering if I should hang out next to the change machine now. LOL
  17. Again, thanks for the info! I pulled the sticker off. >Whether it will appreciate I don't know. >>>Anybody have any experience with late model coins graded below 70? Thanks again.
  18. Thanks for the info! I wasn't paying a lot of attention to the sticker when I bought it, just the fact it was slabbed and graded. I paid 60 for it, if anyone cares. I figured: 40 for the bullion + 20 (more like 35) for the grading. So I did okay. Whether it will appreciate I don't know. Anybody have any experience with late model coins graded below 70?
  19. Hi, Just bought this silver eagle. I know it's not MS70, I couldn't get near those for less than $200-$400, but it's still a good MS69. What's the deal with the "MAC" sticker? Do those even mean anything??? Thank You, Mel
  20. Oh cool, I did not know that. I think the animals on their coins are so cool. I might make jewelry out of some. Don't see a bloody frilled lizard on a coin everyday.
