Well, if those books cost that much I'll surely be using the library. Our local library, though still frozen, hasn't been open since covid began. I am bit really sure if they are gonna reopen. So sad. Although computers are great, I love books.

I will check out the resources you sent also. What or where should I go for reference to ensure fact? Will the resources you gave me be all I would need? I live in a little town called Strayhorn, between Tunica and Senatobia. I will definitely check the Southaven one out. I am usually there a couple of times a month anyway.

Well, shy is one thing I have never been accused of being and I don't plan to start now. I would love to know if there is a coin club nearby. I've lived here my whole life so I am sure there'd be someone familiar in the bunch, if there is one close. And, yes, as I am sure you know, when more women get involved EVERYTHING changes. I am on the school board where I live... No men at all... 5,yes,5 of us women. When it is good, it is great. However, when someone isn't happy... Well, I'll just say there's no median for us. Lol. It will definitely shed new light on things as we see one thing while men see another.

@Mr.Bill347@Mr.Bill347 while I was trying to see if I could find a way to determine the date, without the actual date, I learned several interesting facts, or so they are stated as so anyway. @RWBstated a few things that got me thinking. (I am an overthinker anyway so that doesn't take much. ) While reading about these dollars, the earlier ones which were struck in December, 1921, were intended to have all been melted. Which they probably were... But, just think, what IF @RWBis correct in his theory of it being used on some type of machine and it was used at the mint and never destroyed? Wouldn't this be an amazing piece of history? I know we will never know, but I guess as long as we don't don't either way it could still be possibility. I was thinking, of course I am very new to this and learning every second, that because it is mostly smooth that it must've been shallow but I see what you are saying now. In other words, I smell what you cookin'! Lol. Anyway, had it been shallow, well it would probably have nothing, or hardly anything, visible now. I can feel that the letters in LIBERTY are raised, but barely. Her head and hair protrude from the field just enough to make the coin not lie evenly on the table. The eagle on the reverse protrudes about the same, just ever so slightly to make it rattle when you walk. All the letters on the reverse ars smooth and the edge is not as distinguishible as on the obverse, yet still slightly raised. I hope all my terminology was correct. Whew, that was a mouthful 😊

I have a Peace Dollar which I am thinking someone must've made a necklace out of because it has a hole drilled through it. It just so happens that this hole is through the last number in the date. I have read and found a few identifying marks that would help to determine the year but the quality of this one is not where I can identify it by them. It seems as though it was a very shallow strike because it is almost smooth to touch.

Well, lemme tell ya, I would love to find a treasure, just like the next person, but that is not why I am doing this. Because I LOVE it! That is why. I am gonna give you a succinct version of my testimony so asnot to keep you all day. My husband was killed in a wreck last April. (I don't Ned sympathy because I am at peace. My faith has not let me down yet.) My little boy went with his uncle to get a gun I had bought his daddy many years ago. Well, when they got there, it was gone. (That is another story so I'll leave it there) Inside the safe they found a bag of coins that my husband had apparently been saving. Evan, my son, has ALWAYS loved coins so I am sure that is who they were for. One day I decided to get the coins and try to do something with them. Put in a book or something. So, I have pampered and cared for so many coins lately that I feel like they are my children. Lol. Anyway, it would be great to find a treasure so Evan could have it later, but the story behind this bag of coins has no money value. So, now, besides the fact that I like to learn and understand, I try to learn more so I can teach him as he grows. (He has finally stopped burying the I the yard)

Lol, @Morpheus1967, I have seen a few of his comments to others that seemed a little... harsh. However, when I went back and read the whole thread, it was warranted in MOST cases. He reminds me of a teacher I knew once and her whole, I mean entire demeanor, was based on her students. So, I think as long as my attitude stays in check I won't have any trouble with him. 😊

Ya know, I don't know if I have ever been a part of anything such as this. I have never been involved in something where people are so willing to help, for nothing in return (except for a inch of questions). I am just saying that I am proud to be part of an entity that is so full of knowledge and integrity. I wish I knew what knowledge I could offer, since I know nothing about coins, but... Thanks again for all your help and for not making me feel stupid while giving it.

Alright, my friends. I hope I got this right, but at least I am trying, lol. I am attaching a pic of all the 182-d pennies that I have. In the pic, the three I believe to be small date at the bottom right. I don't have scales yet, so I can't weigh them. Did I pick the right ones, as far as looking at them? Is there another way to tell their composition other than weighing them? Also, how do I get that gunk off of them?

Hey there. We are doing good. My kids are LOVING the snow and ice. I wished for a foot of snow and by golly I got it. I enjoy it too. Thank you for your feedback and for being so kind. The way you replied made me understand why it wasn't what I imagined it to be. You made me want to look for more instead of put it down and I appreciate that. I fell asleep before finishing the article (book) but had already come to the conclusion that my sad little quarter was a dud. I'm gonna find something one day and y'all are gonna hear me holler from wherever you may be. Lol Thank y'all for being so nice. Some people are so... Not nice. It is so much easier just to be nice. Being rude is just exhausting, but then again, I am from Mississippi, where we can "slap your face and bless your heart in the same sentence". While waiting on my microscope and scales to arrive, I have another thing I would like to have an opinion on, if you don't mind. I will post it in a little while... I know y'all just can't wait for this one.

Hi again. I know I already I have one question in que, but I thought I would give you another to ponder on when you have the chance. America the Beautiful quarter with blank reverse; therefore, it has no state or date. Just a faint bit of lettering from E Pluribus Unum on the reverse edge. It is also smaller than the standard for the quarter (as shown in the pic) and appears to weigh less (my scales have yet to arrive. The reverse is smoother than silk though it looks to be rough. I looked up America the Beautiful quarter errors. One error was being struck in a nickel planchett. Do you think that was the case here? This has baffled me since I saw it. Again, thank you for your time and input. Your help is dearly appreciated. 🙂

Hey y'all, I am Sharann. I know hardly anything about coins but I have gotten totally hooked on evaluating every one see! I would really appreciate any input you can give me. I am sending the best pictures I can right now made with my phone. My microscope and scales are somewhere in transit but I live in Mississippi and we have totally shut down cause of the snow. If the pics are not good enough, I totally understand and will send additional ones when I get my packages. Anyway, about this quarter... It has always been wrapped in plastic but I took it out to take pics. I have been watching and reading a lot about errors in coins, grading etc.. As a result, I ran across another 1961 d quarter DDR RPM (I hope I got that right). I hope the pics are good enough for you to tell if this one could possibly be like it! I would also like to know if you think it is worth sending off to be graded and what grade you think NGC would give it. Thanks in advance for helping me. I wish I had taken up coin collecting long ago and then maybe I could help you 😊
