  1. That is really interesting. I knew from reading about them they had lots of issues minting this coin. Because of this they changed to the type 3 version. The coin is also incredibly small, I couldn’t imagine having those in my pocket back then, I would probably lose it. I believe the type 1 dollar is even smaller than the type 2.
  2. RWD Thanks for the information. I think that is really awesome, I wasn’t quite sure what I was seeing on the coin but it makes sense now. They say you learn something new everyday.
  3. I had a question about the strike on this coin. I read on the NGC page that the strike on this coin is very weak. Overall I don’t think this coin looks too bad overall but the 8 is really bad. That would significantly affect the value right? Even with the 8 and the two LLs usually being the weakest features on the coin. Anyway I just wanted to know what more experienced members thought about this. I really like the coin and don’t plan on selling it especially after reading the history behind it on the NGC page. Thanks for your time.
  4. I’m not exactly an expert on Trade dollars but I do have some concerns. The date looks a lot different than any other date I could find from the internet. The way it is worn also makes me skeptical. I hope I am wrong for your sake. Maybe someone with more experience with Trade Dollars can help you for sure.
  5. Thanks I definitely want to keep them and continue to collect coins. I collected them when I was younger. These have been in a safe for a very long time.

  7. Here are the front a backs of an 1852-O 2.5 dollar coin and a 1912 10 dollar coin.
  8. Hello everyone I have 22 gold coins that belonged to my great grandfather. I have tons of silver coins and bills too but I want to start with maybe getting the gold coins graded first. I’m not too sure how to go about this and if they are worth grading. I think they are in really nice shape personally. The cases have more scratches and smudges than the actual coins do. When he collected them there wasn’t any coin grading services yet so they haven’t been graded.
