  1. There were coins found: West Point time capsule: Coins, medal found days after opening (usatoday.com) "After sifting the dirt, West Point experts found an 1800 Liberty dollar, an 1828 50-cent piece, an 1818 quarter, an 1827 dime, a 1795 nickel, and a 1827 penny, and an Erie Canal commemorative medal." Guess the 1795 nickel is a half dime.
  2. Tobias, a very nice example of a coin that in my opinion would straight grade as an XF-45. All the bickering on this board is detrimental to those of us who what to discuss and learn about coins. Every thread seems to deteriorate into a match. Too bad,
  3. Thanks Roger. The Peace Dollar book is fantastic and I have read it cover to cover. My mistake in crediting Bowers.
  4. Roger, I wonder if there is more information out there about what US coins (likely gold) that are considered rarities may not be if/when the next shipwreck is found. A second topic, which I know Bowers has investigated, is what else can we find out about 1964D Peace Dollars.
  5. Thanks for your contributions and congratulations on finally being recognized for it.
  6. Traditionally gold has an inverse relationship to the value of the dollar. The strong dollar has kept the price of gold down.
