  1. Here's a close-up of the date that I took to complement Mike's pictures:

The shield nickel is a beauty, which seems very odd to write.

Thanks for the comments, guys. I see that I'm now sandwiched between Boiler and IrishMike and then Chinook. 27_laughing.gif But this particular Shield has a chance of holding its own.

  2. Hi Lee – Can you tell us anything about the Omaha Bank Hoard (other than it contained some well preserved Lincoln 1c)?

IGWT I sent this question to "Ask an Expert" at Heritage. This is the reply I received today:

"The Omaha Bank Hoard came from a collector who obtained rolls of coins directly from a Omaha bank over the course of several decades. Heritage was fortunate enough to purchase the entire hoard."

Thanks, Lee. Not sure that it's deserving of a special notation on the insert . . . but, nice coins regardless!

  3. Latest addition: 1876 5c DDO (S1-1003, no listing in either Fletcher or CPG). Graded MS-64 by NGC, but I would give it a technical grade of a high 62 or low 63. The strike is soft -- seen most clearly on the east leaf clusters -- and there are a couple of hits in the prime focal areas of the shield. There are also planchet defects; you'll see the most obvious in the 7th argent of the shield. But, the eye appeal might account for the grade that it received. The obverse is from a fresh die without the typical cracks, the surface has proof-like flash, and the tone is a deep amber with an orange tint.
