  1. This coin was found with a severely distorted date. It was either a 1941, or 1947, or who knows what. The last digit is that of a slant, that if it were a 7, would be out of position, too high and too close to the 4. If it were the front, upper left leg of a 4, the leg would be too long and at the wrong angle. It came back simply labeled "1941D, Date Damaged". I don't think that's an adequate description given the easily seen surface, with no evidence of material removal or change. I doubt that a "1" could be slide over at a angle, the way tthis is displayed, without it being a part of a die or impact problem. Either way, "Date Damaged" tells nothing.
