All coins will be Auctioned from December 7-16
I finally gave up ! I had fun in the competition . But its time to pass the torch to someone else. Too many ppl playing games in here. The Registry is not what it used to be. At one time I was so proud to be apart of this family, But it changed so much and not for the better ! It is just a shell of what it was ! I have chatted with so many wonderful ppl in here and met so many awesome individuals, I even talked to people I never seen and chatted with them till the very end when they passed away. Emotions and feelings run high, as some many collectors have so many different opinions and feelings on different subjects. I am one of the few who spoke his mind and don't care what other think. I expressed my mind and defended what I think was right.

To all those who was in my circle in here and know me, the can attest that I am one of those ppl that they can honestly say I am a friend. I stick to my word and I don't back down. I want to thank all who I chatted with in here if I did or didn't agree with you . I will never forget those I met of had wonderful disputes with. I had a great time and its be a nice 7 years with you all. My #1 Roosevelts set is at Heritage with a lot of POP 1 coins, If you are interested is some, be prepared some will bring big money. Some of these coins are to rare to miss !

    Good By To all !

    7 years in the making
I do believe this is the first all STAR Roosevelt Mint State MS68 Full Torch P,D and S ever brought together. I have been collecting Roosevelt's since 2007.. Long struggles and sometimes just waiting to see what pops up. Even though I do believe Roosevelt's are one of the hardest series in the modern coins. High grade, plus finding the rare full torch is a challenge, among challenges.
    Here is the Rarity breakdown
    1950-P MS68*FT POP 1 with none better.
1950-D MS68*FT POP 2 with none better. I owned this coin since
2007 and I have never seen the other coin.
1950-S ms68*FT POP 3 with none better. Kellwj,Staten Island and
    I have all 3 monsters.
It may be a few more years, But only time will tell what other year set I can close off?

    This is totally retarded !
Of course, due to heightened security at NGC all collectors are now required to type in an analog number and also another set of numbers to verify what the coin is on the holder when you go to verify NGC certification.. I really cant see why in the world you really need this.. OH by the way, that second small box, you cant the numbers because the numbers are too dark sometimes. This is becoming a pain. Next NGC will be slabbing a slab. This way you really know its really an NGC holder. I think I will start calling NGC and give them certification # and have them doing the extra work. I love NGC, but I always speak my mind ! DO any other members think this is way too much?

Abandoned for years over 40 years
Hello everyone. I recently bought a new house, well, its new to me. I had been looking for a house that was bigger than 3 bedroom 1 bath.. Im sure you can see the problem. I was wanting something with a 2 car garage. Real estate is high here in south Louisiana. I have been looking for over a year now. I just happened to look through my computer and found a huge house that was a fixer upper. I was amazed when I pulled up in the drive way. The house sat on 5 lots. The house was 4 lots long. It was a Brick 2 story. 2 beautiful Oak trees in the front yard. They are massive. I walked in the back yard through the high grass and I can see where a huge garage was and where an in ground pool was that was filled in with sand. The listing showed it was 5 bedrooms ,4 baths, 2 living rooms, Dining room, 3 kitchens game room and single car garage all built in one. The roof had some damage and I wasn't worried about it. I met the realator and she showed me around. This house was built in the 40s and who ever built it was wealthy for that time. Every house on the rest of the block was either 1 or 2 lots, nothing compaired to this house . The house looked like a time capsule. Marble rotary phones was still in the house.50's shag carpet. Copper Etched paintings still on the wall. 24 caret gold etched plates in the main kitchen. Brick flower planters in the house, Clothes from the 50's and 60's still in the closets, all the outlets are 2 prong, amazing. I fell in love at first sight. The house was vacant since the late 60's. The newest thing I found was some playboy magazines from 1979-81, but nothing other than that. The reason the house stayed vacant was because the roof was leaking and no bank would touch it. Someone had to buy it cash.. They had offers in previous years and no one would finance it... I pulled some serious strings at a bank I know, and I had to put 20% down and the roof had to be completed in 3 weeks after closing. I signed on Wednesday and started to clean it after work. The main living room was the first. A lot of stuff in the house was garbage. As I was sweeping ,I found a penny. I picked it up and being a coin collector ,I had to look at it.. BAM .. Wheat penny 1948... WTF.. What is the odds of that. My heart was racing. what is the odds. I proceeded to work between the inside and outside for the next few days. Saturday night I went in the master bath and was sitting on the toilet. I just happen to notice another penny on the floor by the corner of the wall. I had to pick it up.. BAM.. Wheat penny 1946. This was too good to be true.. the only 2 coins I fine in the house and wheat pennies at that. The house was almost spotless and after 40 garbage bags of trash I was getting closer to a spotless house. I went to home depot and went to get sheetrock to fix the ceilings in a few spots in 3 rooms.. I was sweeping the dining room when the broom pushed something. I reached down and it was a 1964 D quarter. I was so excited I called everyone in my family. I am now at a disposition. Should I tear down the interior walls to see if there are any treasures.. I know this house has to hold more secrets.. No one can be this lucky... I know a lot of ppl hid valuables in the walls back then, because they didn't trust the banks. The owner died in the 80's so that road is closed, What do you think I should do?

    Gone, but not Forgotten
Nov. 8, 1960 - Nov. 20, 2012On 11-24-2012 I wrote a NGC journal about a great friend I never met. I really took it hard when I learned about his passing. He was one of those people that you call a friend, but never met. Hours of talking on the phone about coins and stories about life and family. I miss talking to my friend !!!!I made a promise to myself and everyone in here that I will put his birth year set to #1, which was the 1960 Mint set.I sat on the computer for hours week waiting for the coins to come up on the grades I collect. Even though his name is #2 in the Roosevelt Dimes 1946-Date, Circulation Issue series, He was #3 until the #2 guy left the registry. I am sure he will be so proud if he knew he made it right under me to that #2 spot.I will miss you buddy ,so he you go , you are now #1 in the 1960 mint set.I hope you are enjoying your new life as you left this one way too soon. Here is his mint set, for all the collectors to seehttp://coins.www.collectors-society.com/registry/coins/SetListing.aspx?PeopleSetID=50879To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. History just keeps getting better
As a lot of collectors know in here, I sold a lot of my monster Mercury and extra Roosevelt dimes to obtain a one rare car. I have done a ton of homework and I found out that only 2 playboy pink mustang 1967 convertibles were built in the whole state of California special order color. The dealership that sold this car was in Pasadena,CA at Robert H Loud Ford. What makes this story more interesting is that, this dealership is only 30 miles from los angles,Which is the location of the playboy mansion. Now 47 years ago los angles was not as big as is now. I have hired a private investigator in California to do a microfilm DMV search to find the original owner and a copy of that title. I have my fingers crossed to what he finds. If this car had anything to do with Hue Hefner or any playmate, the value will increase ten fold.. Wish me luck. Here is a pic of the car for all the new ppl in NGC registry

    Coming up on heritage
I was scanning the heritage website and coming soon is a Roosevelt dime I didnt need it , but admired. It last sold at heritage for 1600.00 but now it may bring a serious amount of money. I have crossed a few coins from PCGS to NGC,, Now they are being crossed back..

I wonder if the population report is being accurately kept up?

Does it get better or worse from here ?
I noticed a change in the NGC registry. When you are looking at your sets of coins, there is a numismatic value area. Now next to that is a "SHOP EBAY " area. REALLY !!!!
Someone must be getting paid a pretty penny to put that spot there.
Why not "Shop Heritage ", they have better coins for the registry..
Why not just put a space that says " KEEP LOOOKING "
Its kinda like when you want to see a video on the internet, and now you have to wait to the commercial to end.
We have advertisements for MCM and Silver Town on the right corner, now ebay officially made it into our private viewing area for our coins.

18 years of long wishing finally come to me, and I will remember this day in history. Now I waiting for it to arrive from the mailman. I can not say it is the best coin in my collection, but the value of this DANG thing keeps going up.
For all those are still stumped, It is the 1995 W gold and silver eagle set. Even though I bought the set raw, I am wondering if I should send it to get graded? Any thoughts if I should send it in for grading !

They are a last resort when you buy coins from them !
I have been dealing with teletrade for over 15 years and every single coin I bought from them, I will lose money when I sell any of them.
Teletrade has made a decision that, they just crippled themselves and its their own fault.
Lets face facts, teletrade is a last resort auction house. They really didn't know how to run their auction. If you seen a coin you really wanted and you call them, they couldn't tell you what a coins reserve was. What insufficiently_thoughtful_person made this rule up.
Next is even stupider. If a coin sold at 200.00, the next auction the same exact same coin would start at 180.00 or 200.00. Good luck with trying to get a descent deal on a coin. Because the buyers fees were 15% on top of the high starting price.
Then I loved the Tuesdays no reserve auction. This was the junk that they couldn't sell had no reserve but the starting price was 3.00 plus the buyers fee and shipping. so the minimum coin fee plus shipping was 10.00.. Most of the coins that was on there wasn't even worth that.
Another tactic to keep business they would offer " No Sellers Fees " in hopes to attract sellers to consign to their auction. But with their high starting prices, very few people would consign to them. How in the hell are you suppose to make your 15% when a coin doesn't sell.
When you click a coin on their site, it has a starting bid of 200.00 and next bid is 200.00, which means the coins has a starting reserve of 200.00. with no bids, Good luck with trying to get a good deal.
If a coin didn't sell, and you called teletrade to offer the seller a reasonable price ,the people who answered the phone would either say, It has to run through 3 auctions, or the seller doesn't take offers on coins. I can see they were motivated to make that 15%. Greed is their worst enemy !
As a last resort the offered a crazy Gold rewards program. For every dollar you spent you got 1 point for FREE coin stuff. This Doesn't include the 15% buyers premium or shipping. It was actual money only on the coin. So if you spent 6500.00 on coin you got a free NGC ms65 Morgan Dollar, "their Choice of Course" The average price of that coin was about 120.00 value. Just the buyers fees of 6500.00 is 975.00.
Now the gold rewards program is no longer available.
Now instead of having 4 auctions a week, Now they have 1 auction that runs for a week long. Here's the best news, Not only do they have the expensive starting prices, They added a whopping 17% as their new buyers fees. Now I personally don't mind a 17% buyers fee in the coins start at 1.00 with no reserve like 95% of heritages coins. 90% of the coins on teletrade has a high starting prices of you can just say the word "reserve".
I feel the finally condemned themselves!
Any thoughts on is from other collectors society members?

Trading the best coins for the best car 1!!
For all of those who know me, I am a serious collector and a huge player in the registry. I buy the best of the best and it was time, my 5 monster mercury were sold at heritage. I have been given a once in a lifetime chance to buy the car I always wanted and it finally became available. It is the original 1967 Playboy pink convertible mustang. I know it may sound silly, but only 10 playboy pink convertibles were produced. It it not just a plain jane convertible.
It is originally A deluxe package interior and exterior. Rare options also include Tilt away steering wheel,Air condition, power steering, power brakes, power top, Console, Luggage Rack,289 V-8. I have the pics and the car is finished . These are my mercurys that went to the central states auction and I have a few roosevelt ms67*FT's that went there as well.
    1929 D MS 67* FB NGC
    1941 D MS 68 FB NGC
1942 MS 68 FB NGC CAC
    1943 D MS 68* FB NGC
    1944 D MS 68* FB NGC CAC
The car did take longer than expected. It took me 6 months to complete it. Now I am driving it and enjoying it. I do miss my monster mercurys but the car is a wonderful feeling. I may eventually get back into mercury dimes full speed, but I have to work on the registery awards, with a month to go...
I hope everyone accomplishes their goals this year, Enjoy everyone !!!!!

I still cant believe my eyes
In a recent journal, I explained how to turn a gun safe in coin safe. With over 500 certified coins , junk silver rounds, Toned silver coins, and Solid oak shelves and copper pennies. I really dont know how it happened. I originally bought a bullion version of the 5 oz America The Beautiful when it first came out. I put the on the top shelf inside my safe and closed it up. I opened my safe periodocially to put coins I won from an auction in my NGC boxes and Closed it back up.I went into the safe last night to put my Mt Hood "P" 5oz in the safe. For some reason, I cant explain, I wanted to compair the bullion and "P " versions. When I pulled the first coin from the top shelf it was yellowstone. I almost hit the floor when I seen it toned. The obverse was against the shelve and the reverse was face up. It is the most beautiful full copper toneing with a light shade of blue on the bisons back. The rim has heavy shades of purple and blue around the rim and sides. The obverse that is against the wood shelve is still blasted white. For some reason when I put the 5 coins in the safe, I wasnt paying attention to what I was doing. I put 4 of the 5 coins obverse face up and one face down. The MT Hood is toned on washington obverse. I took a picture of the yellowstone the best I could. I may consider putting this on ebay. This scan cannot do this coin any kind of justice once you put it in your hand. Please let me know what you think !

Both are the the 2nd Rarest but which one is the most collected
I have been doing my homework since the making of the 25th Silver eagle Set. Every month I would chart out the number of perfect 70's available especially on ebay, because that is where the most of these coins are sold.
Everything you may know about these 2 coins are completely backwards.
Mintage in NGC perfect 70 are as follows
    Reverse Eagle is 18,668
    S mintmark Eagle 20,004
I have been trying to figure which one is more collected
Not including the complete sets ,just individual coins
On ebay the Population are as follows
    Reverse proofs are 19
    S mintmark is 11
Every month the S mintmark eagles are getting scarcer.
Since being released in October and a sell out in 5 hours,
10 months have seriously scattered these coins to the wind.
Only 4000 collectors can truely have 5 perfect S eagles since NGC has the 20,000 perfect mintage. I will update the auction populations on the 1st of every month. In the next 6 months the 2 eagles should have only 4-6 individuals for sale. The S eagles are cheaper and more sought out than the Reverse Proofs.Time will tell soon if I am right that the S eagles will be worth less than the Reverse eagles

The price is way out of line
Starting tomorrow the U.S. Mint will the selling the first Reverse Proof and Regular proof Silver Eagle 2 coin set. The Price is 149.95.
The set has no mintage limit for 1 month then, thats it. No more will be struck. With silver at 29.36 multiplied by 2 that amounts to 58.72 for silver value. The mint is making 91.23 per set it sells. How in the hell the mint complains about losing money on producing the penny and skull drags us with mark-ups like this. I usually buy a lot of coins from the mint, but I will only buy 2 sets. This is insanity !!!!. Let me know what everyone else thinks.

Not All coin are graders the same
There is pluses and and minuses to this. I had plenty of PCGS coins that would not cross to NGC. PCGS does not see NGC as an equal, but NGC does and a few collectors in here have the same coin with PCGS and the same serial number.PCGS has plenty of PF70 grades in the 1970's and so far NGC has not found any.I currently own 577 certified coins in my registry with only 3 coins being PCGS. If PCGS would be fair across the board an let NGC in their registry, then that would be unfair. NGC should boot all PCGS coins out. PCGS coins do bring a premium but it is different company

Sitting back and trying to find the best in the world
I really don't like buying any kind of low grade coins. I set my standards extremely high and do everything in my power to get a certain coin when it comes up for auction. I try to set high goals in my registry collection. This is what I plan to accomplish this year.
I am ranked #92 in total registry points. Goal for
    this year is #75
I am #1 in the 1965- present clad roosevelt set and plan to
    keep that pace.
I am ranked #2 in the overall roosevelt 1946-present and plan
to take the #1 spot again.
    I am ranked #1 in the 1946,1947,1950,& 1957.Retain the #1 spot.
I an ranked #6 in the 1949 mint set, goal is to be #1
I am ranked #4 in the 1951 mint set, goal is to be #1
I believe this is going to be a tough enough task !!
  21. Paul Kiraly 31
    Worked hard and Overlooked
I have be working hard on my coins for the last few years. I was #1 in 2007 for my Roosevelt dimes. Ngc changed the point score in 2008 and I couldnt financially recover in 2008.I kept pace with some of the best. In 2010 I was in 3rd place and Arthur Gowman and Nick Casio bought out the #1 and #2 spot and combined the the set. I Was put in #2 and I always kept up with the desctiptions and tried to make the best pictures. Countless hours of scanning to get the best pictures.I have tried to leave the best descriptions of all my pictures. The #1 guy kept his set obscured. HE had no pictures or descriptions on none of his coins. At the Deadline I had all 143 of my roosevelt dimes Beautifully scanned and described. The plaque was given to him for just his coins. I want other members thoughts on this subject. I thought you had to have all pics and descriptions to get the plaque. I dont think this was fair.

4 years in the making and getting serious with my coin collection.
I started just like many collectors in here. I had the whitman book and went through hours of of a certain coins to find to correct years and mintmarks. It was fun and kept me busy. As I grew older in my teens I started to go to coin shows and I was happy to buy a wore out coin for a cheap. Most coins I bought then were fron $1.00 to $3.50. I thought at the time I was a great collector. In my 20's I got a little more serious. I started to buy certified coins from NGC and PCGS through teletrade in 1999-2003 when they send the little books to my house twice a week.
Back in 2007 my brother discovered the NGC registry when browsing through coin sites. He listed his coins and showed me how to register them. I descided to crank my hobby into high gear to get serious and try to accomplish goals in this hobby. I was unsure what to call my sets? A lot of people would name there sets with ordinary names. I wanted a name that would stand out and push me to buying the best coins I could get. I started to buy NGC PF70 coins of different denominations. After I bought my first monster coin. A roosevelt dime 1946-S MS68*FT from ebay in feburary 2007 I told myself that from here, there is no going back. I called my sets Destroying the ?? competition. I would only buy the most perfect coins I could get my hands on.
My set name"Destroying the 1946-present mint state competition" pushed myself to become #1 in the mint state roosevelt series. I worked as hard as I could to put in overtime hours at work to fund the daunting task. It was far from easy. The #1 guy at the time was in first place for 3 years and had a set that no one ever touched. I stayed up for hours some nights adding up coins and point values to see what I needed to become #1. By The deadlind in the 2007 registry awards, I accomplished my task by taking first place with only 48% complete. I searched through all the internet auctions and attend every coin show around me to find high grade roosevelts.
I was mentally and financially exhausted by the deadline of the registry awards.I have accomplished the #1 spot. I know I would not get the plaque, but I did accomplish a great task. When 2008-2009 came about I could not recover financially to claim first place again. A new person bought a lot of other collectors coins and beat me and I could not catch back to him. In 2010 I eventually got knocked to 3rd when the #1 PGGS guy came into play with his massave set. In 2011 Both #1 and #2 guys dissappeared and put me in #1 for a few months until I noticed one person bought out the #1 and #2 roosevelt sets and combined them into one powerful set.I am close to him and hopefuly I can reclaim My #1 spot again.
My collection is spread out through different denominations including mint and proof state coins. I know I cannot become #1 in all the different catagories, but all the coins in my registry are some of the best that NGC has ever certified.
This morning I added my 535th coin to my registry . 98% of all my coins are NGC coins. I have other coins that are lower grade that I dont register because I would like to see my true ranking among other collectors. I just broke #100 in overall rankings in points. I am finally on the first page. My goal this year is to be #99 before the end of the registry awards. I am trying to accomplish this.I have over 6000 points to go, but I finally made it to the FIRST PAGE !!!!
Good luck to all the collectors out there !

    Rareity is also the key
I know alot of collectors were frustrated with the overwhelming busy signals and the mint website crashing. You have to understand when thousands of ppl are trying to call at the same time, it will be luck of the draw! Same thing goes for the mint website. It took me hitting redial over and over for over 2 and a half hours straight before I got in. It was frustrating . I know the mintage may seem low to most ppl, but shouldnt there be a few rare coins to make the hobby a challenge sometimes? What is the point of coin collection if it is easy and anyone can have a perfect set?
I remember in 1995 I went to my local coin shop that I went to every week. I remember when he asked me if I wanted to buy a raw 1995-W eagle for 300.00. Silver was less than 6.00 an ounce. I looked at him like he was crazy. I told him there is no way I am paying that outragous price! I wish someone would have kicked me and said buy it .
I know there is supply and demand on the second market. These coins are almost doubled in price in one day. I know 300.00 may seem high, but in the real world 300.00 hardly goes anywhere. I can spend that at walmart with a basket full of grocies.
If you werent able to get in to the mint, I hope you can get one at a fair price. There is a lot of 25th eagle sets on ebay with no reserve. If you dont want to pay the price, then you need to go without. People are paying what they want to get it and you need to over bid them.
I remember the 2011 silver buffalo set. The 2 coin silver set. It was limited to 50,000 . You could either go to the mint website 2 hours early and buy it that way or wait till the mint opened and call them. As soon as it opened I called and got through immediatly and it was already sold out.
I was upset at myself for being lasy and waiting to call, rather than typeing all my information in. I still dont have the set, because the price is still high and I will wait to it gets to the price I want. I will get it eventually, it is a high price to pay for a perfect NGC 70 set. But I cant blame the mint because of the mintage, it makes it a rareity to have.
I believe the rareity makes it a challenge to compete any set. Even if I dont get it,because of the sell out, I will pay what I have to ,to get one !

    It was hell !!!
I got in about noon with 5 ppl constantly calling for me. I will get my 5 sets. Even the mint website couldnt handle the volume. The price is now seriously climbing on ebay. I hope eveyone can get a set, but that will be impossible. I cant wait to see what grades I get.

    Special label or not?
Back in 2006 the U.S mint released the 3 coin set of the 20th anniversary set. NGC had a special Label for those coins. The catch to get those special labels were to have them unopened from the mint and put them in another box and send them to NGC. NGC members had to officially open the box from the U.S. Mint and they were all designated as the 20th anniversary. If the Mint box was opened and then sent to NGC, the only coin that could get the special designation was the Reverse Proof. The other 2 coins got the regular brown label, because there was no way to tell if people cherry picked the other 2 coins to make a perfect set.
Now, here we are in 2011 and the U.S. mint is releasing another set and it is a 5 coin set. My main concern is that NGC has some Silver Eagles with a 25th anniversary Label. This new set to be released October 26th and is the true 25th anniversary set.
I need to know if the same guidelines for the 25th anniversary follow the 20th Anniversary?
    1) Is there going to be a unique special 25th anniversary
Label for this 5 coin set?
    2) Does the sets have to be unopened to recieve these special
    labels?
