Hi,

Can someone inform me the difference between the two labels? I thought that a (W) means that there is no mintmark on the coin, yet both have "W" on them

I got it as slabbed so I dont know, but I think it is glued on the surface. There are other sea animals as well in this series.

One of the fancier coin that I got recently, using glass element on the coin.

For eye appeal NGC uses the star designation, the + is for something that is above xx grade but doesn't make it to the xx+1 grade

I have been wondering for a long time why this is, any explanations?

Using my submission for sample, line 64 and 65 is different than 66 and 67, even though both are New Zealand coins and of the same series. Another example set is line 73 and 76, both 2 Euro coins and properly titled, while line 70, 71, 72 and 75 are also 2 Euro coins in ALL CAPS.

Dont get your hopes up. I have done a lot of submissions (some at shows, the rest direct to their Hong Kong office), some got finished in less than 3 weeks, some got finished in almost two months. Unless your submission was part of the "On-site grading", in which they would have done it by the end of the said show.

I have been their customers for almost a year now and I have picked up quite a bit of nice coins from them, so far so good. They are just an auction house, so the seller will be listing the coins for them. If you dont like the item listed, just pass on it.

I would like to ask for an edit of this existing set:

NGC will encapsulate most coins that you send them as long as you pay the fee. I think the better question is why would anyone send that to NGC and there are many answers to that here

The second coin is an 1897 50 sen.  Like several years there is a difference between the 'stem cut facing up' vs. 'down' version.  For this year the 'stem cut facing up' is a scarcity.  I've seen the variety for at least one year labeled, so I suspect the variety option was not chosen when it was submitted.  

Neither coin is superb, but as varieties they got me excited.  My pictures do suck as the overhead lighting has been changed in the basement...it's messing with my lamp set up and neither is quite as ugly as its photo.

You will need to contact them first to make an appointment and then go to their office for both submission and pickup. Their address (which can be found on ngccoin.hk) is:

Kowloon, Hong Kong

The direction is just to go in the long shopping mall and once you enter, turn right all the way and go to the third floor. There will be elevators, choose the appropriate tower and go to the 12th floor. 

Once you are in the office give them your submission and they will count your coins/banknotes together with you for confirmation and that's it. You will need to give credit card number as well, I dont think they accept cash but you can ask.

Can I ask why this coin is not encapsulated? "Detached Applique"? It is a single plain silver bullion coin...

It's a hard question to answer, the best way to learn is through experience. But otherwise JKK answer covers most of it.
